You youngsters don't realize they had protections in both the BCS and previous playoff deal.

This is the reason I can’t take people on message boards seriously. Too many are fricking retarded.

there was not near enough outrage when the CFP committee gave them a special T12 exception for at large bid.

If LSU finished #12 in the CFP poll they would be replaced by a 5th place conference champion that was ranked lower and passed over for a playoff spot. ND however because of their outrage last year and committee caving to them can finish #12 and instead of them being replaced by a lower ranked team, the #11 team would be replaced.

Or the committee could just rank them 13th

The CFP Poll hasn’t come out yet. We have no idea where they’ll be ranked.

Last year there at least the eye test.
Last year, Notre Dame didn’t make the playoffs, despite finishing 10-2 and having made the Championship Game the year before. Their 2 losses were both to CFP teams in the 1st 2 weeks of the season (Miami by 3 points and A&M by 1). Finished on a 10 game winning streak. The SEC got 5 teams in last year.
Notre Dame will definitely be in if they beat #1 Miami and finish the season 11-1. Which they should. If they lose to both and finish 9-3, they are definitely out. Which they should be. But if they lose to either Miami or SMU and finish 10-2, I don’t think it’s anywhere near a given that they get in. Yes, they’re guaranteed to get in if the committee ranks them in the top 13. But the committee has no obligation to rank them that high. The 1st CFP Poll comes out Tuesday. Let’s at least see where they’re ranked initially before we start whining about them. BYU’s loss last Saturday was bad for the Domers.

Exactly. If the committee doesn’t think they deserve to be in, they will rank them outside of the top 12. This is just a 1-year deal now that the playoffs will expand to 24 next year. Let’s save our outrage until they actually do get special treatment.

And no one would cry for the #11 team who is probably 9-3

What happens if these things happen:
1. Notre Dame gets blown out by Miami in primetime.
2. BYU loses a couple more
3. Wisconsin and SMU drop a couple more games
4. Notre Dame looks average in their remaining games and eeks out a few wins
That would leave a 10-2 Notre Dame without a single good win (maybe even top 25 win) on their schedule, a loss to 2-3 loss BYU who lost to UCF, and a blowout loss to their only top shelf opponent.
Are they still putting them in over, say a 9-3 SEC team that has a top 5 SOS and several top 25 wins?

Anyone who thinks the auto playoff spot matters is too emotional to be taken seriously. The committee will drop them to 13th if they don't want them in or would have moved them up to a spot to get them in even without the agreement. The committee literally did it last year.

Massey has them at #3, so you are right, being at #5 is too low.

Last year there at least the eye test. This year they dont even have that.
They've won by double digits in every game they have won, with an average win margin of 31 points while playing 5 P4 teams and 1 G5 team. The opponents are 19-20 when you control for the L from ND. Rice is the one that is killing that though being 1-7, the opponents would be 18-13 if you took out the rent a win.

How they are ranked above Kentucky….
Kentucky has the more impressive win so far sure, but they also have a 28 point home loss. Their average win margin is 13 points and that includes an FCS and G5 team, it's 9.5 points against P4 teams. Their FBS opponents are 25-20. I don't think Kentucky is bad, but the SEC logo next to their name is overhyping them a lot. They are 2 2 point conversions, and some very questionable refereeing against LSU, away from being 6-2 or 5-3.

If that happens ND should not be in. Only way they should get consideration with 2 losses (BYU and Miami (has to be a close game)) is if Wisconsin wins out, SMU wins the ACC, BYU wins out, and Miami wins out. Even then it would take the SEC, and maybe the Big 10, cannibalizing itself some. Realistically there isn't a world where 10-2 ND gets in this year IMO and that is coming from a huge place of pro-ND bias.

You better hope Wisconsin and SMU start losing because those games will be used to prop up the Irish.

The agreement was made before last year's playoff fiasco where your shite arse team got in over a better Notre Dame team and got butt fricked ten ways to Sunday.

We will and should be out in that scenario. I don't think you'll find many ND fans, at least rational ones, that would be bitching about that.
We know this schedule is soft and needs improvement; we know we have limited opportunities to prove anything.
If Wisconsin and SMU keep winning, then maybe the conversation changes.
Last year's consternation was because there were two very clearly inferior SEC teams that were let in because they stumblefricked around against each other (twice, as it turned out), and the conference oligopoly and ESPN interests being what they are, they got in over a much better Notre Dame team.
