Is it common place now for H.S. baseball teams to partner with travel ball organizations?

I am not in youth baseball scene at all, but this seems sketchy on the surface.

There was a big issue with a high school in California this past season due to stuff like this.
The travel org basically runs the HS program at Ganesha HS in Pomona, CA. They scheduled a showcase for the travel org out of state around the time of one of the HS playoff games. The coach and several players were originally going to skip the playoff game to fly to the showcase until the volume of the criticism got so loud they decided to play the HS playoff game.
That's an extreme occurrence, but I agree with your assessment of sketchy on the surface.

Is this like a farm system where they get kids at 7 or 8 and build them up to funnel into their HS baseball program?
Or is it a team the HS kids from the HS team play on?

Most LA High Schools are playing under the LA Knights umbrella primarily for summer baseball which only lasts about 4-5 weeks anyway starting in late May
Catholic and Barbe are partnered with LA Knights and have been for several years
It keeps their teams together while developing for next high school season and it still allows for the top prospects to play another month in July away from their high school teams
Those running LA Knights are all based out of Mandeville

I assume this travel organization fields pre-high school teams. Seems like the H.S. coach is going to have to beat off some pay-to-play accusations at some point.

It’s pretty much just:
This particular travel team is made-up of only players from the same school. Their top players will still get to join higher level teams if his HS coach allows.

He already is having to do that
He immediately got his arse jumped and had to post this this morning
Travel ball is 100% a business at the end of the day and no matter how good the coaches intentions are this puts you in murky water IMHO

It’s common and a racket. Kid pays 1500 for 4-5 weeks of summer ball. Feels compelled because their coaches from HS will be the coaches of these teams… the knights give them a couple tee shirt jerseys and get all their teams to play in these tournaments.. the coaches get a nice check and the Knights bleed of their money.

Is there any truth to rumor that a couple of baseball coaches at Mandeville are deeply involved in the Knights?

It’s true. Deeply involved can sound nefarious but involved yes.

google search says you still got 20 or so American Legion teams in Louisiana
we still have plenty in Arkansas
our Legion coach was a former MLB player and pretty sure he coached minor league baseball after he played.
travel ball is bullshite. Get your kid in with American Legion during the summer

Ganesha's top pitcher is home schooled outside of Ganesha's district but still takes classes online at Ganesha. He will be a 1st round draft pick and has committed to LSU.
Ganesha High School's baseball team faced heavy accusations regarding amateur eligibility, as the majority of their roster was composed of travel ball players connected to head coach Jared Sandler. Critics and opposing coaches accused the program of bending rules by having players live outside the Pomona district and take online classes. The travel ball controversies and surrounding accusations were highly publicized:T
Critics argued that the team circumvented traditional transfer rules by fielding players who resided outside the district and took online courses outside the Pomona area.
Championship Drama: The situation reached a boiling point in May 2026 before the CIF Southern Section Division 2 title game. Rumors circulated that Ganesha's coach and nearly all the travel-ball players were going to miss the championship game to attend an out-of-state camp. The Pomona Unified School District's superintendent stepped in, and the team ultimately showed up. Ganesha went on to win the championship against Loyola High School.

Was the AI summary necessary?

It’s unfortunate but high school baseball has evolved from developing talent into collecting talent. Private and public alike and they use the travel organizations to facilitate this.. it was like this 10 years ago, albeit more subtle, and has only gotten wider..

knights having high school affiliated summer teams is NOTHING new. And Mandeville has about as good of a HC as there is. I can promise you he's not a guy that only drinks Knights koolaid.
