Is there any truth to rumor that a couple of baseball coaches at Mandeville are deeply involved in the Knights?

It’s true. Deeply involved can sound nefarious but involved yes.

Some kid from another travel organization is going to get cut from the team, perhaps even deservedly, and his parents are going to blow this up. Unless Mandeville's coach makes it a point to bring in kids from other youth travel organizations. Going to be difficult for parents to not bring up the possibility of kick-backs, especially when these travel teams run over $3 a year.

people say a lot of shite without understanding full context of things.

most kids who want to play travel ball are in the middle of a summer schedule already. the school summer league is ending this week or so. mandeville has rosters loaded with numbers and talent. this is merely a way (IMO) to keep a group of kids together who want to continue to play more ball more opportunity to play together. it will be interesting to see a few of the kids who are already on other travel teams, if this new team interferes with existing schedules they are committed to. mandeville has a few kids already on a very high end knights team playing ball right now. my son's team plays summer travel teams every weekend that are high school affiliated branch off travel teams that are getting together/forming a team so they can play more ball together. none of this is new.

travel ball is bullshite. Get your kid in with American Legion during the summer
It's not exactly that simple.

Legion ball is still a thing. These kids are still playing legion ball for the Mandeville high team. But, you also have to make a legion team.

The Legion season ends in June unless you advance in the post season. As others have said, this is for extended play.

I am not affiliated with MHS or any of their people. I hate what travel ball has become at the younger ages. That said, this is for older high school kids who want to play past HS and need more reps in the summer.

It keeps their teams together while developing for next high school season and it still allows for the top prospects to play another month in July away from their high school teams

I think that’s a liberal explanation for…

You either pay and play for this team or you don’t play for the high school team. Same shite for Dutchtown as it is for Catholic. No one will admit it, but anyone looking from the outside in can see it plain as day.

Same shite with soccer.

They’re good baseball people but don’t be naive in thinking this doesn’t open them up to legit criticism. Every high school that does this opens themselves up to this

You are the one overreacting here

Nobody here is confused. But the fact is the coach had to immediately make a statement mere hours after announcing the partnership. There is a reason for that….

Fair or unfair, the presumption of impartiality is lost for him. And the truth is he won’t be impartial going forward even if he thinks he is. He is human. He will be around knights coaches and facilities and will constantly hear about the “awesome 13u kids they have etc etc”. That will be in his head when tryouts happen

And PS, I have a knights kid so it’s not sour grapes…..I don’t think this is a huge deal by any means, but I do think it gives knights youth players more of an inside track to make the team . But I agree the coach isn’t some Knights only type

You can defend essentially forcing these kids to pay thousands of dollars and running money through the organizations back to the coaches all you want but don’t pretend that’s not happening. I personally don’t care.. but don’t think this doesn’t open up issues as with parents whether they’ve done anything wrong or not.

Do you think it’s right that high school players are forced to play on the summer and their parents spend thousands to an outside organization?

(I’m not sayin huge above is true. I don’t know that it is). If that is really going on anywhere that is wrong and any parent has a right to be upset
