oh you can do it, i have seen it done....its just in 99.99% of cases you are not starting on the varsity baseball team. they are month into the season, you will have missed fall ball, winter preseason practice and then 1 month of the season. arm wont be in shape either more than likely

now chad is wrong that the coaches can not coach the summer team, they absolutely can. Almost all the baseball coaches that have teams in the 2D tournaments are the HS head coach.
ok please explain this rule in lhssa of 2.7 of how a head coach/faculty or non faculty coach would be able to coach a team compromised of entirely all kids from same school? I'm honestly just confused why this rule is not applicable.

i haven't said anything incorrect. I've explained many times how mandeville has players on national teams that i doubted they would even be on this team.
The only confusion i had early on was that this post was for a late summer schedule this year, cause nowhere on THIS THREAD detailed differently.

So Mandeville isn’t going to partner with the knights like other schools and have their kids play 5-6 weeks and pay all that money in the summer “voluntarily”?

Parents are not forced to do so.
I've admitted 3 times that I wasn't aware for the first 3 pages that this was for Summer of '27 cause nothing in those pages said so.
I've also said that I've been personally playing against 2d teams from other schools all summer long. Most of those teams being from the 14-16u age groups.
There's already summer obligations to schools you want to play for regardless if you are wanting to do this "knights affiliate team". Do you know that? There's 9th grade, JV, and Varsity summer league that is played.
I also find it funny as hell you pay knights money for years but then when your child gets to highschool and it matters most, you want to take a stand against paying knights money. as a knight hater, i love it!

I dunno but i can tell you if you go to one of the 2d high school tournaments you will see the hs coach with all the players from his school coaching the team. They arent enforcing it nor are they hiding it, im assuming that rule is no longer applicable.
all of knights hs affiliate teams are like that. only teams like Team LA, UBO, CBA etc are not all one school coached by the HS coach.
and hell from what i was told, Catholic isnt even doing the "metro" 2d league anymore in the summer and instead is just intersquading playing against each other
so i dunno nor do i have time to look that rule up right this second. but i can tell you all the teams are being coached by the HS coach with a lot more than 5 kids from his hs.

they were doing this before...I didnt think that chad said they wouldnt be.
but mandeville has been doing this, just wasnt with knights
it hasnt changed anything
and every bigger HS in South LA does this that is worth their salt in baseball.

yea im not understanding his hang up unless its
i dont want to be forced to do travel ball in high school
and to that....I say good luck. both if your kid wants to stay on the team and if your kid wants to progress to starting one day.
and yea we been playing up in the same 2d tournaments and in the underclass 16u and most of the coaches we have seen are the HS coach and they are teams from one school in most cases. no clue why the handbook rule isnt being enforced or if it is even applicable anymore with the new rule going into effect next year for freshman eligibility

But it’s jumped the shark completely and it deserves to be mocked if you are forcing it on kids good enough to make the high school team on your own. It’s 100% a business leech money grab at that point . It ain’t about having fun with your friends and developing anymore. If you are on the high school team already this is just becoming pure business transactions
We are absolutely ruining high school sports and within a decade at this point it will be a shell of what it was

Nah, this is an existing rule. So you told me i'm incorrect but i don't believe i am. Is this only applicable to varsity roster kids? Is it applicable to underclassmen kids? etc etc.

i am not arguing with you and actually agree
should not be a requirement at all. if a kid wants to play travel ball, it should be up to them. same with legion etc
now i do think kids that want to play in college prolly should but again that depends too
my biggest gripe with it is not the money its that we have made real development really hard between fall ball(2-3 weeks of inter squads) then spring HS season(5 months really) then another 6-8 weeks of "mandatory" summer ball.
even for the baseball only kid there is very little time to develop outside of competition.
sure we can and should be lifting weights in season but its much easier to gain strength, speed, size when we dont have competitions.
with the skill stuff like throwing velo, bat speed etc its very hard because you are always having to get ready for competition.
not to mention if you are multi sport playing football and baseball.....literally have zero off season. zero.
and dont get me started on the "parents, plan all your summer vacations for this 2 week window during the summer or else" BS.
i will say this....imo football is the worst about the summer stuff. I am all for lifitng weights, everyone here knows im a freak about that stuff, but god damn it there is no reason a HS male should have to do 6am weights during the summer. If its an on the field thing, i understand but just for lifting.....thats fricking dumb....not to mention the performance deficit from not getting enough sleep.
trust me im not arguing with you, i was simply saying this isnt a new thing. it just wasnt with knights before, but its been that away for a while.

not sure and are you sure this rule still in effect with the new freshman rule? i know what you posted is from the 26 handbook but i dunno. and you may not be wrong per the rules......but thats not what is being followed.
but i have seen Head coaches coaching the upper class too from across the state. small and big schools alike. So i dunno
what i do know is.....there are lots and lots of HS coaches coaching teams that have more than 5 of their players on it.
maybe it is varsity level starting players only? not sure

its kids who want to play baseball actually want to play baseball. i couldn't imagine relying upon solely JV and Varsity only reps during the spring baseball season and rely upon that only as to the progress and development my child makes.
i find your skepticism a bit selfish cause evidently your child wants to play numerous sports in highschool and yet remain active starters in all of them without doing any extras of that sport in the offseasons. that is how it is coming across, and yet you are hiding behind the money grab but you've been paying knights money for a few years already where it is actually the 100% money grab during those years.

A high school baseball player should not be forced to play almost the entire summer. Defend that if you want behind whatever principle you claim

Maybe a little off-topic but baseball has always been the toughest sport to play with other sports, but it used to be more common, especially at smaller schools. I knew many kids who played football, basketball, and baseball, Unless you went really far in the playoffs would end fb in November, start basketball in December and up to speed by January for district play, then catch up with baseball after basketball season. I will say football, basketball, track was more common.
However, all of that involved the coaches coordinating/working together.

so my kid would never not want to play baseball
my gripe is more....the forced to be able to remain on the HS team and i only have a problem with is at public schools. if they are not forcing them to do it....then im fine with it
if you actually want to play, better be or you better be going somewhere to train all summer
for example i would much rather see a kid go live and train at a performance center like the driveline, TBR, FBA, Prime, Tread, Top Velocity etc than play summer ball but I also understand that is the rare kid and 99% of HS kids need more in game reps
but i do have a problem with the football and baseball coaches arguing and forcing kids to choice.

They aren't.
Are you sitting there calling the Coach a liar?
But boys that want to play baseball want to go play baseball somehow somewhere.
Talent is Talent, a lot of this comes down to your kids and his skill set.
But you've been okay with your Knights spring/summer/fall schedule but now have a super problem with summer ball when they are at the height off their careers playing with their highschool teammates possibly

its usually 1 in may, then 4 in june
but i get it from a parent standpoint and i do not think public school kids should be "forced" but i do think that if your kid actually wants to play and start you need to realize that it is a must do from that stand point.

i am
because i have sat there and watched a bunch of different coaches say this when meeting with parents in 7th and 8th grade and before tryouts and watched the same kid get cut the first time they say they arent playing summer ball.
