I don't watch NBA basketball but know what's going on due to Fox Sports Radio and Sportscenter with some playoffs NBA Tonight or whatever TNT calls their show with Shaq and Barkley.

The dude scores points but looking at box scores, his fg % is shite and it's in a losing effort more times than not.

Just a pure volume scorer that doesn't help his team as much as he should?

I think the biggest issue is that he is one of the worst defensive players in the NBA, which just seems impossible given his athleticism and frame.

Everyone targets him defensively and he just kind of relies on Gobert to hopefully bail him out.

I am an idiot

I remembered Donovan wearing Davion’s jersey during March Madness last year and just kind of assumed they were brothers.

Whats crazy is that when he was drafted one of his strengths was supposed to be defense.

Like you said, it makes no sense for him to be so bad at it when his athleticism is so far off the charts.

Him and Trae Young have had disastrous playoffs this year. I’d say their stocks have taken the biggest hits while Ingram and Tatum have had the biggest bumps.

I’m not sure Mitchell and Young will be viewed as top 25 players after this

Yep, a lot of defense is about effort, and he just doesn’t put in the work on that side of the ball.

Trae Young killed it in the playoffs last year and was 6th in PPG, 3rd in assists per game and 4th in PER in the regular season. He had a beyond disastrous series for sure, but he ain't outside the top 25 in the league from that alone.

1. I wouldn't say he's overrated because I don't think people see him as some sort of world beater.

2. I think this series has more to do with the mavs than the Jazz. The mavs defense is no joke. Mitchell isnt much of a passer, and as a pure scoring 2 the mavs have shut him down and made clarkson the Jazz's offensive star. Not what you want.

His 4th quarter stats are pretty awful.

This is how Talking Heads have people regurgitate their opinions.

I had a dude tell me the Pels need to trade Zion because now that we traded for Bradley Beal we don’t need him. True story.

Mitchell is kind of overrated by the casual fan. When he went nuts in the bubble a few years ago everyone just assumed he was ascending into the elite tier.

He's pretty middle of the road in advanced stats, despite having one of the highest usage rates in the league.

He is pretty much even with booker across the board they have the same advanced stats. Booker is probably viewed as better by most because of the aesthetics of his game.

PER 21.6 to 21.3
WS48 .156 to .152
TS .576 to .572
BPM 4.3 to 4.1
VORP 3.6 to 3.6

About as close as two players can be.

When a great athlete is bad at defense, the reason is almost always a lack of effort.

Right they aren't that far off, but Booker has better marketing, plays with a better supporting cast, etc. I can't imagine a much better situation playing with Chris Paul (elite PG) and Mikal Bridges (defensive-stopper) on the perimeter.

Booker is also better defensively - helps him that he's 4 inches taller than Mitchell.

Besides the last game I would hardly call it disastrous. And I definitely wouldn’t put him in the same category as Young in the playoffs.
