15-13 isn’t getting your arse kicked.

American team played great in singles, but just couldn’t get it done in team competitions Friday and Saturday.

It was a comeback for the ages.

I don’t get the hype for this event. I guess I never paid that much attention to it. I like the Majors though.

Match play levels the playing field a good bit, and then team match okay does it even moreso. 16 of the 28 points are team format, including 8 are played in a format that Americans almost never play. So more than 25% of the points available are in a truly weird format. It’s kinda hard to argue that it’s a bit strange given the strokes gained data, works good ranking, and the singles matches all favor the Americans, yet Europe has won like 10 of the last 14. I enjoy the event, but I probably prefer watching the great American players do well in the majors than the other way around.

Seems weird having Straka on the Euro team. He moved to Georgia at 14, played at uga and now lives in Birmingham.

There was no debate on what the best tour was in the Seve era.

The Europeans certainly didn’t feel that way in the late 80s and early 90s

I think the dumbest part is the 14/14.5 system. Who cares who won two years ago. If it's tied at 14 let the captains choose a contestant and play sudden death golf. There's really zero logic to the current system outside of "that's the way it's always been done".

The constant whining during the event from US media was just exhausting. It was like every shot of Rory and Shane they were repeating the same talking points over and over again. They gave the hecklers the attention they wanted and made the broadcast a billion times worse.

Agreed. I didn't like it (the antics) but it was a little much. If you'd just tuned in you'd have thought cops were holding back mobs ready to attack them.

I think to some degree you are right. It's probably a bit more difficult for individuals players to have "continent" pride as opposed to US players who have national pride. However, I don't think the emotion was contrived. If you are a guy from the US playing in front of a US crowd for a US team championship, that national pride kicks in. You could see it in the emotion several of the US players showed after making huge putts on 18. That was genuine.

For team Europe it was more of "team" pride than country/continent pride. The Bethpage crowd was brutal...and personal with their attacks...and I'm sure it pissed the individual European players off. That united them as a team. They wanted to stick it up the American team's/crowd's arse not because of English, or Irish, or Swedish, or even European pride, but TEAM pride as the target of attack.

Golf is an individual sport. The Ryder Cup is the closest golf gets to a football or basketball game. Until Lowery ended it, those final few hours were incredibly fun to watch.

I was just using that as an excuse to try to get unbanned so I can call a bunch of 15 handicaps worried about what ball they play figs

I think the Ryder cup is a very fun event to watch and also a very “stupid” event in terms of how much weight the media tries to give an exhibition golf event played on teams style every two years like it actually should matter to a golfers legacy

That’s not a golf crowd and few would have blamed the Euros if they had just walked off the course

Next Ryder Cup in the USA bring in the Augusta people… that’s what all golf crowds should be like, knowledgeable and respectful and don’t put up with BS

Yeah, they let the fans get out of hand - they literally invited it and begged for it to be this way - doesn't it seem that way.

They did the same with the Waste Management Open until it crossed the line. Encouraged until it went too far.
