There is one thing you can say about SC and UCLA they will come play you if you are willing to come to their place and play. They love home and homes but will not do 2 for 1 or 3 for 1
The same day USC plays at home vs Ole Miss is the same day UCLA plays at home vs Georgia. If they aren't playing at the same time I might try to make both games.

Where are the impressive teams they played?
2002 Auburn was 9-3.
2004 Va Tech won the ACC and nearly upset undefeated Auburn in the Sugar Bowl.
2006 Arkansas won the west and had a chance to beat Florida in the SEC Championship Game.
2006 Nebraska won the Big 12 North and carried a 9-3 record into that title game.
2008 Ohio State went 10-3, losing only @USC, home vs Penn State, and in the Fiesta Bowl vs Texas. USC, Penn State, and Texas combined to lose four games that year, one of which was Penn State losing to USC in the Rose Bowl.
2009 Ohio State won the Big 10 and beat Oregon in the Rose Bowl.
USC beat all six of them. Here are the scores:
Auburn: 24-17
@VT: 24-13
@Arkansas: 50-14
Nebraska: 28-10
Ohio State: 35-3
@Ohio State: 18-15

An expanded playoff should make interesting OOC games more common. We all want to see more good OOC matchups and having games between schools that have never played each other before.
I remember reading this a few years ago:
quote:
Most years, the Gators mitigate the SEC schedule with a series of close-to-home exhibitions. Florida hasn’t left the state for a nonconference game since 1991, when it played at Syracuse, and hasn’t ventured west of the Mississippi since 1983, when it played USC at the Coliseum.
I don't know about Florida's more recent history with OOC games, but Florida and Cal have scheduled a home-and-home series for 2026-2027. Shocking! It's cool to see all these SEC teams venturing out to California.

Pete used to smoke everyone. People forget how nuts those USC teams were.
I didn't. Which is why I think anyone is an idiot for saying Riley can bring back SC back to those days.
Unless Saban or Carroll is going to become his DC it's not happening.

What’s the context? It’s ancient history. Army was great at football in the ‘40s so what’s the point?

They would have whipped Florida in 2008. Although in reality it should have been OU vs USC

I don't think anyone with a brain ever claimed USC didn't have great teams under Carroll. The problem was much like Boise St, they played an utter shite in conference schedule at the time and one maybe 2 mediocre to good teams out of conference.
They never went through a gauntlet like SEC and even BIG teams did.
Also, they opened with Auburn both years. Auburn was notorious for struggling to start seasons under Tubberville.
They played an awful Arky team in 2005, and then played them in 2006 before they switched over to the Wildcat offense. McFadden was hurt going into that game and they were playing Robert Johnson at QB. They didn't switch to Mustain until after the start of the 4th quarter.
They were a good team, but that 2006 Arky team was struggled at the start of the year, and got a lot better as the season rolled on.

Not sure I agree with that, actually. That Florida team was absolutely loaded. I think that year SC was absolutely OU's and UF's equal, though.
I think they should have won it all in 2007 and likely could have in 2006 as well. That 2007 team was absurdly good but lost that crazy dick trip game against a terrible Stanford team and blew it in Eugene but steamrolled their way through the last month of the season. They had 10 guys drafted and 7 in the first two rounds in the 2008 draft.

They beat the ever loving dog shite out of Arkansas. I do remember that. Think they dropped 70.
I, too, remember that game. That was a slaughter.

I don't think Florida has played an out-of-conference regular season game outside of the state of Florida since ht early 1990s. This is not hyperbole.

08 is one of my all-time favorite seasons. I loved watching OU, UF, TX and SC that year. All four were freaking stacked

They opened with Michigan in Dallas a few years ago. That was the first one since 1991.

This is not true. The Pac 10 during the Carroll years wasn't "utter shite." It was a tough league, much tougher than it is now.
Comparison of percentage of Pac 10 and SEC teams ranked in the final AP poll during Pete Carroll's tenure at SC
2001 - 40% for Pac 10, 42% for SEC
2002 - 20% for Pac 10, 25% for SEC
2003 - 20% for Pac 10, 42% for SEC
2004 - 30% for Pac 10, 25% for SEC
2005 - 40% for Pac 10, 42% for SEC
2006 - 30% for Pac 10, 50% for SEC
2007 - 40% for Pac 10, 42% for SEC
2008 - 30% for Pac 10, 29% for SEC
This metric doesn't include good teams who won 8-9 games and didn't finish ranked.
The Pac 10 wasn't as good as the SEC, but it wasn't a "utterly shitty" conference back then.

I gotcha. Let me rephrase: I don't think Florida has played a non-conference regular season road game outside of the Sunshine State since the early 1990s.

This is fair and factual. The maddening thing about Carrol’s SC teams is that his teams would play down to the level of the competition. The Stanford (2007?) and Oregon State (2008?) losses were atrocious.

Auburn in 02 and 03.
Arkansas in 05 and 06.

UCLA loss in 06.

Yeah, the '02 game was a good game. I sat in JHS and witnessed the '03 game live and that was definitely an arse kicking.
With that said, the '04 team would have beat USC in the title game. 100%
