bullshite. Rules favored the defenses back then and he took alot more beatings then these pansy qbs today take.

As for speed, gee, I wasn't aware record setting qbs today ran faster than qbs 50 years ago. Drew looks like a real speedster out there, so did Marino.

A friend talked to Raymond Barry a few yrs ago & the HOF WR with Johnny U said that with today's rules, JU would pass for 10,000 yrs. Said he was one of the toughest football players ever to play in the NFL. He would walk off the field looking like a LB, dirty, bloody, mean.......

I agree. Johnny U played when they were throwing 20 passes a game and the defender could beat the receiver all the way down the field. Plus, O-lineman could only do the "chicken wing" to block still, so he was probably hit a lot more.

It shouldn't take anything away form Drew though. He has done something lots of other HOF QBS never did since Johnny U.

Although I think his will be broken within a few years.

. Stick him in these high powered offenses today

and he would suck. Almost all of the players from that day and age would suck. Everyone is just that much more athletic now.

Unitas, Jim Brown, Jim Parker, Butkus could play in todays game IMO. Raymond Berry, Night Train Lane and a few others as well.

Move on a little later and I have no doubt Staubach and others from the 70's could as well.

Yeah because good QB play is reliant on athleticism. I guess this guy was one of the greatest athletes of our generation.

You can't coach awesome or accurate.

I think if Unitas passed for 10,000 years he would break every record. Of course he might be the only human left on earth by then so no one would know it.

Jim Brown was roughly the same size as Ladanian Tomlinson when he played and was a great deal larger and faster than everyone he played against.

I saw Unitas in his prime. He was a great passer and made great decisions. But he was not very mobile. Did not have the escapability of a guy like John Elway.

If you throw out the concept of era and teams and rules and assume all QBs at their prime in a cosmic age, Elway was the best.

Now thats funny! Where do you get your information?

Jim Brown was 6'2 232 lbs when he played and had world class speed.

He would be the best back in the game today.

Tough to say

He has the physical ability to be able to play. But we don't know if he would be any good.

Can you please point out all of the people who are putting down Johnny U or saying that he isn't the best ever?

Why do you say Elway was the best? Based on athletic ability? Based on wins? Based on arm? I think the best is a tough call.

I listed my best a few weeks ago as this, in no order:
Baugh
Graham
Starr
Marino
Montana

It hurts me not to put Roger on that list, but I think he was good if not better than Elway. I am going to catch heat for not putting Unitas on the list, but he is in the top 10, I just dont know how to seperate 4-8 though.

Why do people keep responding about the QB's athleticism? Obviously the earlier point about the overall athleticism is mostly applied to the players on defense and the difference in speed from then to now. I can't believe people are this dense.

Elway is a bit overrated. He threw a ton of interceptions. Then again, so did Marino and a lot of other qb's of that era. I would probably go with Manning myself.
