He can recruit and he’s a hell of a defensive coach. Stoned Lincoln Riley and Caleb Williams last night. Shut Ohio St. down and should have won that game. His weakness is in game coaching/game management, but he’s only been a head coach for a year and half and you figure that will improve as he goes

Huge win last night. Definitely revitalizes their playoff hopes.

USC is a 7-5 and team. Wouldn’t overinterpret that game

Game management I agree… what does in-game coaching consist of???

Their playoff hopes died in Louisville 8 days ago. I still can’t figure out if you’re legitimately retarded or just an awful troll.

Wow...this is a knee-jerk about-face for the overwhelming opinion of the MSB after the knee-jerk reaction to the Louisville game.

So they whipped a Riley overrated USC squad that struggled to beat Colorado. Yeah, lets wait for another litmus test that fields a defense.

There’s about a .5% chance at the playoffs unless absolute craziness occurs over the next few weeks. Even then some of the situations, say LSU beating Bama, works against them because it gives other teams quality wins.

It’s easy to do “ok” at Notre Dame. That shouldn’t be the standard.

He kinda stumbled out of the gates, but I’ve been very impressed this year. It’s amazing what a competent quarterback can do for any team.

He may still end up fired in a few years (that's the fickleness of the position), but I have no idea why so many wrote him off just because the players rallied for him to have the job. Those people act like he wasn't one of the rising star coordinators in the nation that other teams would be after.

If you can't go out and get Saban, Smart, or Dabo (which you can't), give me a young, motivated guy with potential over any other also-ran "name" coach any day. Hell, the people writing off Freeman are probably the same people who wrote off Dabo and Smart.

I think he will too, now. I was wrong about him when the hire was made. If he stays on this trajectory, would he go home if Ohio State came calling?

He has all the right qualities:
- Motivated as hell
- Intelligent / good football mind
- Maniacal recruiter
- Good people skills

I am worried that he made a bad call bringing in Parker as OC, but he’s brought in a pretty good staff for the most part.

He is a reverse image of Kelly in some ways: Kelly was generally terrible in big games but was good at taking care of business against teams that he should beat. Freeman’s teams have been really charged up in big games but have fallen flat against the Marshall’s and Stanford’s of the world. Freeman now has as many home wins against at-the-time top 10 teams in 1 1/2 years as Kelly did in his entire ND tenure.

If someone is hired to a position they haven't done before there has to be a reasonable expectation that they need some time to grow themselves. He has already improved from last year and there's not much more you can ask for. I think he will ultimately do well there and coach there for a long time. He seems like a good guy.

Just because a program has more resources and the lights are brighter doesn't mean that a coach will do well. There are countless cases of coaches doing well at smaller programs and getting crushed at big time ones.

What’s your idea?

Is it that coordinators getting promoted rarely works out?

MSB:
After a loss = he’s over his head
After a win = he’ll be alright

What’s your idea? Losses to Marshall and Stanford last year?

I think that’s more Al Golden. I think he can recruit and that’s it. I think he makes poor hires and makes Les Miles look like a genius in terms of in game management.

There’s a reason he lost to Marshall, Stanford, and Louisville beat the brakes off them.
