lol @ Jeff Passan and that dork Ken Rosenthal right now for defending this. “Don’t be mad at the dodgers spending, anybody can do it.”
Yeah, they aren't the only ones I've heard say this, but they are two I expect to know better.
One thing that's come out of it the can fully and effectively and finally debunk one big Dodger myth, that the tv deal that was much more a product of good fortune and some head scratching good fortune in the courts - was not product of brilliant ownership manuevering - because as we have found out, the Dodger ownership has shown they are in no, way shape or form brilliant.

Perp walks are coming.
White hats are in control.
We had to let it happen this way to get rid of Manfred and the dodgers.

Those two are obvious massive water carriers for the league, pushing whatever the league’s current agenda.

I mean I would expect them to know that no team has near the t.v. contract the Dodgers do and can't spend like them if they cover baseball for a living. Now Buster Olney, I would definitely expect that of him.

This is so wrong. All he did was borrow the money to buy these sports teams from his insurance company and didn’t disclose that he was an officer of the insurance company. And now they’re worried that the collateral won’t be able to pay back the people who bought his insurance products. Which it will. This is much ado about nothing. Insurance companies loan money all the time. All he had to do was disclose that he was the borrow and therefore it was an “affiliated” loan. He’s already sold the lakers and Chelsea is probably next so he’s trying to pay off the loans. Like I said it’s much ado about nothing. The feds have it out for him is what it really is.
Everybody laugh at this retard.

I can’t wait for October rolls around and the Dodgers are on their way for another WS championship.
I am sure all of the discussions by the game commentators will focus on the Dodger’s ownership fraud. We probably will only get 3 or 4 in-depth exposé’s about the 2017 Astros garbage can cheating “and where are they now” discussions.

If they had any integrity at all they’d cover it extensively.
They don’t.
Surprised by Passan’s lack of comment unless I missed it.

And they rarely if ever mention the t.v. deal and the tremendous advantage it provides - saying "everybody else can spend like they do they just choose not to". If by everybody they meant 2 or 3 teams maybe.....then yeah.

quote:Whats the story with the TV deal? I saw that supposedly Walter approached the network and tried to negotiate a lump sum payment to end the TV deal early because he was trying to get an influx of liquid cash. Why would he have thought that the network would be open to that? Was the network having buyer’s remorse and thought they made a mistake and overpaid for thr TV rights and Walter thought he was giving them an out?
the t.v. deal

Fascinating. This sounds like Enron-level financial misrepresentation

The previous deal was negotiated under a bankruptcy court by the previous team ownership. They only have to kick back a certain percentage of it to MLB in revenue sharing as a result.
Him trying to cash out of the deal and negotiate a new one is more a case of him trying to mortgage the future to get a quick cash infusion, which is what Frank McCourt tried with the Dodgers about 15 years ago and was blocked by MLB.
As far as the networks, he probably thought they would jump at the chance to lock in a rate now rather than when the deal came to maturity, figuring that the rights would explode in value again.
The network may be figuring that it is a bubble about to burst and that making the deal could frick them long term.
