It’s not the Dodgers fault that the Astros forced their WS winning manager into retirement and then hired a bozo with zero managerial experience and are now in the toilet

This has been public information for a while?

The bigger question is why they’re under investigation now?

Not exactly. Initially it was thought to only extend to his Lakers acquisition. It’s become clear that’s likely not the case.

This has the potential to be an Enron level scandal, which could mean all of those deferred contracts are void.

Because supposedly Walters company wildly underreported the amount of his company's funds are tied up in his own personal businesses. I think there was an estimated 12% reported but an audit found out as much as 39% of the Guggenheims funds may be tied up with his personal businesses which would be very bad.

Right now his company is working to break all ties between Guggenheim and his personal businesses which includes the Dodgers (and previously the Lakers before they were quickly sold).

The existence of the insurance companies was known. What wasn't known was the alleged size, what was reported to regulators was like 2bn when what is being alleged is that its actually more like 16bn, and the fact that Mark Walter has a significant affiliation with the companies

Someone inside Guggenheim blew the whistle on the percentage of insurance premiums paid by customers to Delaware Life and Clear Spring that are being "invested" as loans to other companies owned by Mark Walter.

Basically, if Delaware Life and Clear Spring are going to loan out their insurance premium proceeds to companies under the same ownership umbrella, they have to declare it. Walter is being accused of establishing shell companies as a middleman between his insurance companies and his other businesses to hide the fact that the insurance premiums are indeed going to his other businesses. This is called disclosure fraud and it is very, very illegal.
