Was he?
One was playing under an Urban Meyer and Ryan Day offense
One was playing under Coach O and Ensminger of which he has 1 month to learn
Seems less likely Burrow improved 100,236% in 6 months to me
All of this is 100% true. But it would have been very difficult for Burrow to top Haskins' loan season as a starter if they had went with JB9. Ohio State didn't make some horrible mistake

Burrow was a late bloomer. Guy wasn’t exactly great at LSU during his junior season
Anyone who would have said Burrow is better than Haskins at the end of the 2018 would have been laughed off of this board, and rightfully so.
Haskins had 50 TD passes in 2018, Burrow had 16.

evaluating teenaged quarterbacks is extremely difficult

No Haskins was solid in college but how could you watch him side by side to burrow in practice and not see burrow was the better talent?

He was more than solid bro

Our scheme sucked.
Hard.
We asked him to throw long passes and out routes with 3 receivers and no easy throws.

One hit changed his entire football career

A lot of bama fans think “29-0 = Burrow sucked in 2018”
That game was a systematic failure and not on him. We were running the Ensminger offense. The Florida game i thought was his only bad game that year.

Current Aaron Rodgers who is the NFL MVP would have a tough time topping the pure numbers Haskin had in terms of yards and tds even if he got to play in the college game right now
But does that really mean he wouldn’t have been in improvement over Haskins? I think we all would say hell no to that

The ideal qb for college is far from the ideal qb for college. I'd take Tebow over Peyton in college but obviously not in the NFL.

No, but we are expertly qualified to discuss poor quarterback play.

Ohio State wins a national title in either 2018 or 2019 with Burrow. It’s more than just the performance on the field on Saturday’s (and now Sunday’s). Burrow is a LEADER.
Send Haskins to LSU in 2018 instead of Burrow and I promise you Haskins doesn’t throw for 50/8.
LSU won in 2019 because of what Burrow demanded of his team mates in the offseason and those team mates had enough respect for him that they put in the work with him. I think all LSU players involved are glad they did.

It’s amazing how crystal clear hindsight turns out to be

2018 Joe Burrow is different from 2019 forward Joe Burrow for one reason:
Since Sept 1,2019 Joe Burrow has not thrown a pass after taking a snap from under center. Look at every pass play during his 2018 season. He is noticeably different when taking a snap and turning his back to the defense during a deep drop. He can’t make the same type of reads in the same time frame as he can from shotgun. He gave an interview in early 2019 where he made a statement to this effect. I say this because the Ohio State offense during his tenure there was run entirely out of shotgun.

Yeah, having Burrows leadership skills on the 2018 team would have definitely helped the defense not give up 49 points to fricking Purdue.
And Burrow would have totally prevented some of the drops, defensive miscues, terrible refs calls, and Olave incorrectly breaking off his route early from the 2019 Fiesta Bowl.

A lot of factors go into this discussion but 2 things that are often either not mentioned or known : JB graduated in 3 yrs at Ohio State & finished his Masters Degree at LSU in a year & a half i.e. he was of above average in IQ and, as well, he was Mr. Basketball in Ohio's biggest division his senior year i.e. he was a great athlete. All his coaches & many many teammates have commented on his above average competitiveness & toughness. Considering all this & it was just a matter of time.

Team leaders don’t let their team lose focus

Burrow leading OSU in 2019 would have been up 3 scores on Clemson in the 4Q.
