would never have made it

a media that isn't sucking his dick constantly and social media exposing him for the psycho that he is/was would have completely re-shaped how people view him

the whole thing was propaganda.

id love to hear from kukoc too. a couple of playoff games he was dropping 30+ points on elite level percentages and never even got mentioned, while Michael shot like 25% and was portrayed as the guy who won the game

People would view him as a great player but an a-hole similar to KD

Both Smith and Grant say Grant wasn't a source.

Unless you believe MJ over the book's writer and Grant...that part isn't wrong.

The doc was not flattering to Pippen and he's clearly hurt by it.
I didn't get to watch ,but I figured the " Pippen is nothing w/o MJ" narrative would be perpetuated.

Sadly this is the reason Kobe no longer wanted to play with Shaq because he began to hear the " Kobe would be nothing w/o Shaq" nonsense. Kobe didn't want to be " Pippened" by foolish fans/ media.

It's the reason I despise the GOAT ranking stuff.

MJ and Tiger are so similar in the fact they were raised by horrible humans. Their fathers were shitty humans.

Earl Woods’ shittiness has been well documented but never heard this about Jordan’s Dad. What’s the story there?

I didn’t see anything groundbreaking or even worth reporting in that whole excerpt, honestly.

Eh, I think we give this angle way too much validity.

He adjusted to getting criticized by newspapers on a level unprecedented at that time - I don’t think he would have crumbled because of Twitter.

I mean my god, there was wild speculation “reporting” that gambling got his dad murdered - no superstar today has had to deal with anything close to that.

Jordan would get his arse kicked by Horace. Everything he says is a lie.

I bet Pippen was the snitch. Seems like it would be in line with the rest of his actions in that documentary.

Pippen can be "stung" by his portrayal in that doc all he wants, but all the shite that made him look bad were direct quotes from his own mouth

The Esquinas book and Bouler trial had been a few months prior. So, there was this motiveless murder of James Jordan with MJ's million dollar gambling debts, including to a convicted drug dealer, fresh in the news.

There's a reason the conspiracy theory has persisted for so long. I don't think the murder is anything but what it was on its face, a botched carjacking, but the timing vs the gambling revelations...it's why people speculate.

It's not fair to MJ the person at all, and I certainly have sympathy.

Yeah...but he did retire from the game during the height of that criticism.

I don't think he would have crumbled with Twitter, but I do not think accepting criticism and haters is MJ's strong point. He cut Barkley out of his life for a legit observation in Barkley's media capacity.

It's definitely not

but we've seen other guys at this level struggle with criticism without it affecting their performance

Remember that ESPN article that was pulled about Lebron? It wasn't even scathing, it was just a night on the town of him being kind of immature. Then it was gone. Same thing with the video of him getting yammed on by a high school kid at that basketball camp - NIKE pulled it.

Point being - these guy's adjust and hire people to make sure they don't look bad.

I expect Jordan would have adjusted the same way.

ETA: There's a chance he would be perceived differently in the moment, but I can't think of anything more damning than articles speculating on whether or not your gambling addiction got your dad whacked.

Yeah, how was MJ’s dad a shitty human?

And how do we know that MJ was a terrible father? Are there actual anecdotes out there?
