Don't quite understand the hype. Very good defense, but lost their best playmaker in Reid and are mediocre offensively.

Are you talking about LSU?? Wait nvm....

it's very possible with their weak arse schedule. but they'd have to go undefeated, and both LSU and Bama would have to lose 2.

I don't see them going to the BCSCG game but winning the ACC seems very realistic, especially with the young talent they have coming back and Clemson appearing to be the only true threat in the conference.

Still, they have only had two 10-win seasons in the last 10 years so I'm really not buying into the national title hype.

Overrated. Fsu won't make it.

I think he's just trying to be different. Picking LSU, bama, or USC like everyone else would be boring.

Didn't Herbstreit just devalue LSU for losing their star playmaking, albeit questionable in coverage, corner?

Yet when it happens to FSU, they're his pick to win the MNC?

One of the main arguments against LSU is that we don't have a proven QB. The only think Manuel has proven is that he is a pussy who folds under pressure and trickett? Please.

In college you can win a NC with a QB and a D-line. They have both of those

I dunno. LSU had below average QB play with a D-line, but they had the run game to back it up and an EXTREMELY opportunistic defense at D-line and defensive back. If FSU's defense can't play like that, their QB isn't going to get the points on the board that they need.

Under the BCS, you have to pick an SEC team to be there if you're being honest. Until we get a playoff, reputation matters.

He is playing the odds. The SEC surely can't win it EVERY year... or can we?

The media (ESPN) is really going all out for there not to be a SEC team in the MNC game. Herbie is towing the company line.

He does know that Jimbo is still FSU's coach right?

Thoughts???

first thought is most posters will blast the pick as if he was picking Florida Atlantic instead of Florida State.

Its not a bad pick. Its not completly out of left field but not the chalk either. The most common comment from those blasting the pick will be something about FSU is over rated every year and "always" fails to live up to expectations. Which is of course silly, since their coach is just in his 3rd season as a HC, so his great recruiting classes are just now coming into their own.

They dropped 3 in a row last year after their QB got hurt. They have a lot of talent on D. Toughest game will be at Va Tech, whcih they could lose. If they do drop a game, they are probably out, but I think they play in Miami this year, it wouldn't shock me with if they run the table and make it to the BCS CG rather than the Orange Bowl.

Florida State has lost at least 3 games every year since 2002,

LSU had not won a NC in 45 years before 2003 and had 8 losings seasons in the 15 years prior, so I'm not sure how that's relevant. And what years were they better?

Picking them to be in the national title game is a crock.

Nah, its called an opinion. since you are so concerned with history, maybe you've noticed that many times teams have made the title game that were considered a surprise, like 2010.

I agree with most of what you're saying, but great seasons don't always translate to BCS CG appearances. Even if they go undefeated, they're not getting in if they are not one of the two best teams out there.
