Oregon is not known for their stellar defense and they also slowed down Auburn's high powered O. It was still a close game.

My point was:

Oregon vs LSU
Oregon vs Bama
Oregon vs Georgia

Are you taking Oregon in any of those games? There's no reason to take the Ducks considering the SEC has won the last 1,346,432 BCS titles and the last two SEC teams beat Oregon, the most recent being a domination.

The SEC will more likely than not have yet another representative in the title game which should be any of those three listed above.

Don't care.

First ever BCS win huh? You should see what google has to say about that.

I think he obviously meant the Chip Kelly era...they had lost their last two BCS bowl games under Kelly...and the talk was, lets stop propping up the Ducks until they can at least show their system works against BCS teams. So last Rose Bowl against Wisconsin in a very tight affair they finally won. Lets just say, they aren't going to BCS bowls and blowing people out.

And Johnny come lately is relative...

This is what google has to say about the Ducks:

"After two Rose Bowls in 1917 and 1920, the Ducks appeared in just four bowl games over the next 68 years."

Ergo, they have little to no real football history until very recently '94 on...

Pretty long explanation about a second BCS bowl win. He says "their" first, in no way is that obvious he's referring to Kelly's first win.

You know I know this. There isn't a duck fan out there that would say otherwise. Although, typically most see the late 80's as the beginning of their rise.

My sister went to UO...she was a freshman when the finally went to the Rose Bowl in '94...she calls me and says: "we're awesome in football, glad I picked this school."

"How are you guys in football?"

which is almost 20 years ago. Oregon is now established as an upper echelon power. No one thinks Minnesota is good because of the titles they won 50 years ago.

I think people now expect Oregon to be good. And with a better name brand, they play for the title in 2001.

first of all, why is it the default response that some one that is critical of something is "butthurt"?

Next he is 100% correct. Look at Alabama's schedule last year closely. They were 7-1 in the SEC last year, the 2nd best team SEC they beat, the 2nd best team mind you was 7-5 Auburn.

If you don't think reputation of the SEC, Alabama and Nick Saban were not factors in them getting in over Oklahoma State, you are just a blind homer or intellecually dishonest.

What conference produced the 2006 NC, when today's players were in Jr High should not be a factor in who plays for the 2012 NC, but ask an SEC fan why the SEC is best and they will say 6 straight NC's first.

Herbstreit gets paid to attract eyeballs. The US outside the SEC has more eyeballs than the US in the SEC. Outsiders are tired of the SEC (7 straight and 8 of the last 9 official National Championships). He's pandering to the bigger crowd.

I would certainly take them over UGA, not the other 2 assuming all are at 100% or close to 100% strength.

All of these "reasons" are completely irrelevant. Seriously do you think Florida winning the title in 2006 with a coach and players who are no longer there would be a factor in who would win between Florida and Oregon in 2012? I'd love to be your bookie

To call the LSU game a domination is a bit of reach. It was close at the half, LSU scored on ST turnovers by a true freshman. Oregon, with basically an option QB threw for 240 yds and outgained LSU. You really can't say you totally dominated someone that outgained you by 60 yds. In any event, in 2011, LSU was better than Oregon, that means nothing for 2012 and certainly doesn't mean Oregon could not beat an SEC in the future. Apply your logic to LSU circa 2001. We were terrible against Tenn and had not won an SEC title since 1988, so naturally we could not win it in 2001 right?

I'm sorry, this is a pretty ridiculous statement and a total cop out. Contrary to what most SEC fans think, there can be and are in fact good teams outside the SEC. Its possiible for someone to think a non SEC team could win without it being a false pick to pander.

I agree with your larger point, but disagree with this part. Yardage zealots drive me insane (not saying you are one). Oregon outgained LSU by 100 yards in the 4th quarter of that game against LSU's 2nd and 3rd teamers, so their yardage lead is illusory. Secondly, the reason LSU didn't have to gain as many yards is because A) turnovers and B) special teams. Special teams count, and LSU's were dramatically better. Punishing a team because they had to drive 60 yards for a TD instead of 80 because of a better return/coverage game is just faulty analysis.

Secondly, while a 2011 game is not dispositive, it is relevant to predicting 2012. Rosters don't turn over THAT much and conclusions can be drawn from last year's results.

Other than that, I agree with all of your other points, particularly those on reputation and how 2006 Florida has no bearing on 2011 LSU.
