This discussion should be between 50s OU and 2010’s Bama and stop there.

The answer is 1940s Army. Men against baws.

Not even the best team of that decade.

ND: 82-9-6 (.873), 4 national championships.

Army: 68-17-7 (.777) 3 national championships.

ND was 4-2-2 against Army.

To be fair, Army did have a very bad 1940 season (1-7-1). Even if you call that a statistical outlier/fluke though, they were 67-10-6 from 1941-1949, a .843 winning percentage. So still a worse winning percentage, fewer championships and a below .500 record against ND during the decade.

2010-19 Alabama Crimson Tide

2010: 10-3
2011: 12-1 (national champions)
2012: 13-1 (national champions; conference champions)
2013: 11-2
2014: 12-2 (conference champions)
2015: 14-1 (national champions; conference champions)
2016: 14-1 (conference champions)
2017: 13-1 (national champions)
2018: 14-1 (conference champions)
2019: 11-2

And that decade of dominance was literally bookended by two undefeated NCs (2009 and 2020) that aren't even included in this list.

LSU and Florida both had 2 national titles from 2000-09 but sure give it to OU and Texas because their conference sucked outside of them 2.

It’s a colossal disappointment that Bama only won 4 titles during that time. It means they choked the majority of the time.

So no undefeated seasons in that time, and during the GOAT team of all time era 2019 LSU? That’s a no from me dog.

Those Tommie Frazier Nebraska teams would just curb stomp whoever was in front of them. Big 8, Big 10, SEC...didn't matter. Those were some nasty teams and probably the best longevity of dominance I have seen

Well, Frazier was 0-2 vs FSU, so there's that.

1990 FSU: #4
1990 Nebraska: #24

1991 FSU: #4
1991 Nebraska: #15

1992 FSU: #2:
1992 Nebraska: #14

1993 FSU: #1
1993 Nebraska #3:

1994 FSU: #4
1994 Nebraska #1:

1995 FSU #4
1995 Nebraska #1

1996 FSU #3
1996 Nebraska #5

1997 FSU #3
1997 Nebraska #2

1998 FSU #3
1998 Nebraska #19

1999 FSU #1
1999 Nebraska #3

FSU was ranked higher than Nebraska in 7/10 seasons. Nebraska also was never ranked more than 3 slots higher than FSU in any season. FSU was 20 slots higher in 1990, 11 slots higher in 1991, 12 slots higher in 1992, and 16 slots higher in 1998.

FSU was better in the '90s.

OU at least got to some title games in the 2000s. So they at least have some arguments over Texas IMO.

Clemson may have had the best half decade run. Crazy how short lived their time on top was but it was an impressive run.

It was.

After Clemson whipped Bama in the 2018 NCG and had Lawrence and some others returning for 2019, it looked like Dabo (still in his 40s at the time) could be a contender in the GOAT debate as his career progressed.

But he hasn't won another one since as Clemson has steadily declined from that peak, and I really don't think he will win another one.

Back in the 70's OU vs Nebraska was a big a rivalry as OSU vs. Michigan or Alabama vs. Auburn. OU Nebraska was can't miss TV then.

The Big 8 was truly the Big 2 back then. Like Michigan and OSU now record-wise, but those OU and Nebraska teams were really fun to watch.

Swizer owned Osbone. He was 12-5 against him. Osborne also had a 12-13 bowl record when he wasn't playing Little 6 cupcakes.

I know everyone here loves 1995 Nebraska, but Osborne's offense struggled against teams that had physical defensive fronts. That's why OU, FSU, and Miami beat him all the time.

Some folks will say, "But Kansas and Kansas State were top ten teams in 1995." Guess what? Osborne was literally 50-0 against those two teams in his 25 years. They didn't have the horses to stop Nebraska in any year.

If you gave Osborne's other 24 teams a schedule with a rock bottom Oklahoma, mediocre non-conference opponents, and a pass happy bowl opponent that cared nothing about the running game on either side of the ball, he would have several more national titles.

1995 Nebraska was a great team. I am not saying they weren't. But they had one of the easiest paths to a national title in Osborne's tenure because they did not have to face an elite defense that could match them physically and trouble their offense.

Are you so sure?

I'm willing to agree that Bama will not be as strong as previously under Saban but mediocrity? You mean an average of 7-5 or so? Do you really believe this?

Nah. Dabo really did luck into those with lucky gets at the QB position. They only won 2 NC's anyways. Not nearly as impressive as Saban winning with QBs like McCarron, Coker and Mac Jones in any half decade run.
