Honestly in the early 90's there was a lid who died fomrom that at a baseball tournament. Ball happened to hit him perfectly and it apparently stopped his heart. Who tournament was canceled after that.

Exactly. Seems like cardiac wise things are pumping again. Issue is no one knows brain injury and may not know for a while especially if sedated and intubated

Well there was definitely an AED near considering paramedics and an ambulance were there immediately

It happened up here last year to an eight year old baseball player. He was playing catcher, took a foul ball to the chest and died.

Well I’ll just take a doctor’s word for it who may as well be in BFE for all I know and has no information other than what his eyes saw.

I actually learned about this watching 1,000 Ways To Die on Spike TV years ago.

Glad to know that half-baked show was good for something.

Surely there was a defibrillator in the stadium. CPR is done in an attempt to supply O2 to the brain until normal rythm is restored by a shock.

Cleary playground, Metairie, kid was named David

They stopped a 11-12 game I was playing in for his funeral procession

It’s why baseballs for younger age groups have gotten softer

Have a good friend whose dad died at a church picnic after a softball hit him in the chest, this was probably 40 years ago. It was an unbelievably tragic day, you just never know when it's your time. Saying some prayers for a full recovery.

pretty sure it's law that an AED is on hand in all facilities where people congregate in numbers... esp those where physical exertion (gyms/sports facilities) occur

Any care providers remember pre-cordial thump ? We used to attempt v fib / vtach interruption with a good hard fist to the sternum 2-4” inches away in a sturdy focused rapid blow. I’ve seen it work once on a Fib pt.

Absolutely correct. A 4 inch punch to the chest will reverse the v fib or v tac. I’ve seen it work
