Whats even sadder is last night was 100x better than its been.

They ditched all the stupid robot cartoon crap and actually did some decent montages.

I know this will trigger some but it started to go down hill with Gruden and Tirico and then hit rock bottom with Booger and Witten 2 years ago.

It's a mess though, there's not doubt about it. Manning cast is the only way to watch.

Listened to some Greg Olsen on the Packers vs Redskins game Sunday. He’s pretty good, provides some fairly unique insight from playing experience. Mechanisms of creating leverage and when certain leverage is valuable for example. And his voice is solid and stands out. He’s been known as high football IQ and he’s good at showing that in the cast. I’d like to see more of him on high view broadcasts

The biggest problem is the matchups suck.

I remember when Sunday night football was on espn and mnf was on abc. Sunday night football was an afterthought and mnf was the big draw. That’s been reversed.

Eli, Peyton and Drew brought it home very nicely on ESPN2.

Yes, the announcing could be better, but there is a bigger problem here.

Not only is MNF no longer the best anticipated matchup of the weekend (that goes to SNF), but MNF is stuck with the matchup and can't hide it or change it.

The Sunday day games... if there is a crappy matchup, they can just stick it on only a few stations. If SNF is a crappy matchup, at least later in the season, they can flex it.

Thursday Night Football has some of the same issues as MNF, but the expectations are lower.

In 2023, MNF will be able to flex later in the season.

All that is to say... the crappier the games, the more important the annoucning becomes, and MNF has had a lot of crappy games of late.

For some reason, people get upset that it's not some wild and entertaining production. They tried all the gimmicks like Dennis Miller, Kornheiser, and Gruden. We'd all love Tirico, but he's elsewhere. I think this crew is fine, but Griese does talk too much at times. Sean McDonough is a pro at PBP, but they already had him for a while. Who else on ABC/ESPN would you use?

Exactly.

MNF hires jokey commentators or interviews celebrities during the game: BACK TO FOOTBALL!

MNF gets back to football: THIS IS BORING!

That being said, I think there are better announcers and analysts to choose from, without resorting to the latest boring retired Cowboy or Giant.

I'm a huge Saints fan and let me tell you I almost went to bed at halftime. That was unwatchable.

Why not just listen to the game on WWL-Radio 870 and turn down the volume on the TV?

Im pretty sure the NFL influences who is on the broadcast so don’t lay the blame all on ESPN.

I’d like to see a pat mcafee & Mina Kimes booth.

I've enjoyed the Manning cast when it's games not involving my teams, but I was getting annoyed last night when they would ramble off topic and miss commenting on a play.

yeah, that's not the broadcast to watch when you are interested in the actual game

My favorites where Al Michaels and John Madden. Probably more nostalgia than anything. You knew Madden was going to say dumb stuff but it was entertaining.

It was legit awful. Reminded me of watching a sun belt game on ESPN 7 and not a primetime nationally televised matchup

Agree. I generally like Steve Levy but absolutely not for MNF. His voice and style belong on Saturday mornings.

ESPN is horrible. Who still goes there anyway. There’s a billion other outlets for sports. Also they love politics.

They need to move it to ABC and give it to Herbie/Fowler/Rece

But like other posters have said: it’s not just that the MNF announcer crew sucks, it’s that the matchups are sometimes worse than Thursday night games.

Says the guy with a porn dude for a sig pic...

Not obsessed, it just sucks that's what they give us while watching a game. Thankfully there's other options...

Well, to each their own I guess. I find the Manning thing is too much like two "Bubbas" sitting in their living room giving out random thoughts on the game. It certainly lacks any form of professionalism even though both are accomplished, retired NFL quarterbacks.

It just goes to prove not all former NFL players can occupy the booth and sound professional on that level.
