there are only two conferences in college football that even remotely matter. If your so-called "conference champion" is Arizona State, then congratulations, your conference is an utter disgrace. And if your champion needs a last-second field goal just to scrape by against SMU, then your conference isn't just crap—it's a colossal embarrassment.
Let me break this down for you in terms even the most obtuse could grasp: there are at least ten teams in the SEC and eight in the Big Ten that would absolutely obliterate the champions of the ACC and Big 12. We're talking about skull dragging these pretenders through the mud. The notion that any other conference holds weight is laughable, a pathetic attempt by lesser teams to claim relevance in a sport dominated by giants. Get your heads out of the clouds and face reality.

This is not sour grapes. My Crimson Tide did NOT deserve to be in the mix due to the Oklahoma embarassment. But there are six teams in the SEC and Big 10 that belong more than SMU. Teams will now cancel all of their preseason blockbuster matchups .

Can't have it both ways. If there are 5 teams you say that should be in over SMU, then go back to a 4 team playoff.

12 teams opens it up to other conferences. That argument goes out the window

What if they needed 8 OTs to beat a depleted Georgia Tech?

does the conference matter if we are gonna take the team in a 6 way tie for 4th place and put them in the playoff anyway? might as well skip the conference games and just wait for playoff to start

Totally true. ACC is a disgrace. SMU (basically a group of 5 team) going 8-0 in their inaugural regular season in the conference is an utter joke. Ole Miss and SC are both better than any team in ACC — SCar is getting screwed worse than Bama lol.

The SEC had 2 wins over nonconference ranked teams all year, then they all had a circle jerk and beat each other to prove their "dominance".

Less football is never the way.

12 team is fine and gives us matchups we won't normally see.

So would you have beaten OU and Vandy without a preseason blockbuster?
I'll hang up and listen.

And the team that lost both of those is somehow in the playoff due to conference tie-ins.

Come on now. The SEC isn’t nearly as strong as years past which is why mid level programs like Ole Miss and South Carolina won a game or 2 more. This is the beauty of NIL and the portal. It will give more programs wins and take wins away from those programs use to winning 10+ games.

But to say AZ St or SMU or Clemson are garbage simply because South Carolina or Ole Miss choked in the games that mattered is funny, I know South Carolina beat Clemson - and it didn’t matter one bit just like if UGA would have lost to GT. All that matters are conference games under a playoff system and neither South Carolina or Ole Miss or Bama handled their business.
