quote:While true, this isn't a typical handshake.
Touching someone's elbow is not that unusual when greeting/shaking hands.
I think multiple things can be true, but people are so close minded and think everything has to be one way or the other with zero nuance.
I think given the situation and Howard's initial reaction, this wasn't a normal situation and Gard probably should not have grabbed/touched or whatever you want to call it like he did. Now, the nuance is that while I'm saying it probably wasn't the best idea and woulda been better to just let Howard whine and complain and be on his way, it doesn't mean Gard's action was some egregious action that was the reason to blame for Howard's actions afterwards. It's just something that he probably shouldn't have done, that's it. I don't think he should be fined, suspended or anything like that. I just think he probably shouldn't have done it, nothing more.
Everything after that was on Howard, he escalated that really non-issue into a brawl.

I think this is a spot on assessment. Although our esteemed colleague Sugar71 claims he knows people that were killed for doing less than what Gard did

For anyone saying "He shouldn't have touched his elbow" I challenge you to watch previous handshakes between Howard and Gard in this twitter video and keep the same energy.

All those handshakes in the video are all very similar. The one from yesterday wasn't anything remotely like those, but again, you know that. So I'm not sure why you think this is a good point?

Dale Brown threw a punch at Carlos Groves back in 1992 and he wasn’t fired.
Can you imagine if a coach did that these days what would happen to him? Today’s world Dale wouldn’t have made it onto the plane home.

That’s a reasonable analysis. I agree

Brown did NOT throw a punch at Carlos Groves. He shoved him, which he shouldn't have done. But in no circumstance whatoever did he "throw a punch."
HUGE difference.

Your up 14 with less than 30 secs left and u call a timeout for that? Howard has a beef with the Timeout being called
Dumbest take in sports.
We aren't going to give up but you totally should!
Learn the game homie when u do get back with me

This whole thing just makes me realize the world is a lot worse off than I thought. A certain demographic cannot stand “disrespect” while never actually respecting themselves or others. And it’s bleeding into young people of all types.
I was talking about this in a group today and some moron with the emotional intelligence of a 5 year old said, Howard had a right to do that because you just know the asst coach called him something and people need to know there are consequences to their words.
I said, okay, but there’s also consequences to punching a person while you are performing your job. Simply from a liability standpoint you’d almost always get fired. So you’re ok throwing away the best job you will ever have over some words someone who you don’t know says?
The answer was a resounding yes. These people are complete idiots.

Yea Howard messed up with the slap or punch but Wiskys coach said he called timeout to reset the 10 second to get the ball over midcourt. Do fukin what? Your up 14 with less than 30 secs left and u call a timeout for that?
What a weird take.

Yeah touching someone's elbow is equivalent to grabbing them so they can't walk past you then stepping in front of them as they shake you off to impede their attempt to brush you off.
You guys try so hard

You know why. The same reason that they want race out of sports when they disagree with something, but are the first to bring race up. This board is full of disingenuous racist.
Both coaches were wrong. Both should be suspended. I’ve never had a grown man grab me by my elbow before during confrontation but this board is acting like it’s a common occurrence.
Stop being racist!
It's so obvious when a post basically highlights things every party did wrong and says punishment should be metted out to all involved but all they can fixate upon is race.
This topic doesn't even have to do with race... it's about three adults having poor self-control with all needing to be made an example.. especially Juwan.

What part of that dont you understand? Howard had a right to be upset with 2 timeouts in the last minute. Emotions got the best of him. Howard fuked up with a slap or punch whatever u want to call it.

quote:No, no he didn’t
Howard had a right to be upset with 2 timeouts in the last minute
Howard was first to break an “unwritten rule” when he pressed another teams backups
Every single thing in this entire ordeal was preempted by Howard
He pressed when he “shouldn’t have” which caused the timeout
He cussed out a head coach in the handshake line which led to the elbow grab. The guy has a clear history of not being mature enough to control himself.

Howard has taken TO's in the final minute at least twice, this season, in blowouts.
Good for him but not Gard is your argument.
Howard is an immature thug. Deal with it.

No he didn’t, he’s supposed to be coaching his team not theirs and he was pressing when there was zero chance to win the game so by your logic he initiated the whole thing.
Posted on 2/21/22 at 5:10 pm to Double Oh
Howard himself has called timeouts with the game already out of reach in 2 different games this season

I love issues like this that are so obvious who’s at fault, really shows who the real idiots are. I guess some people just love to be contrarians.

ESPN now blaming the handshake line saying it needs to be taken out. There’s no end to the Media’s excuse making for certain people.
