It is the postgame handshake line. If you are in it, you are expected to shake hands. Just bow out if you don’t want to shake hands.

I believe that’s part of what started it, Howard I believe may have been avoiding it. It’s off camera, but he’s delayed getting to the handshake line and the announcers discuss him being upset before he enters the camera. So I believe Gard saw Howard upset and that’s why he tried to talk to him.

ETA: I agree with the others, the issue here is that Howard was mentally unable to de escalate the situation. That’s unacceptable. If he just did a push or shave (not a punch) initially when the argument started, suspend him and move on. But Howard wouldn’t stop and arguably escalated it himself.

That's a pretty damn good privilege to have, IMO.

The issue here is that this isn't Juwan Howard's first offense. This is now a pattern and a major problem. Juwan Howard clearly isn't fit to lead young men. He gets argumentative and confrontational very easily. Michigan should absolutely fire him. Michigan needs to move on from Howard.

Strike One: Going after Mark Turgeon of Maryland

Strike Two: Howard going after official vs Iowa

Strike Three: Howard punching Wisconsin coach

Again...to me, this is about a bad pattern of aggressive confrontations with Howard. Michigan needs to move on or they are going to suffer from this. He is now a negative image for the university.

I agree. And it’s pretty weak of the Michigan AD to wait on the Big10 for discipline…

quote:

“We will review the situation more thoroughly and work with the Big Ten conference as they determine their disciplinary actions and will determine if further disciplinary actions are warranted,” Manuel said in the release.

Has he been suspended before? Seems crazy if he has NOT given his history.

If he has not, my guess is they give him a big suspension and move on. I bet it’s weaker then most expect. Something like rest of the regular season. Allow him to coach the post season including conference tournament.

Juwan can de-escalate the whole situation with a little remorse. If he’s defiant, he will just play into an unfair stereotype. Bottom line…..help yourself Juwan. Admission of a mistake does not cause a loss of respect, it creates respect.

Exactly opposite of what his south side Chicago grandma from the hood fought him.

. I agree with you except that part is not arguable. He absolutely escalated it, when he started arguing with the Wisconsin coach, and most certainly when he threw the punch. As a coach of young men he should be the one they look up to and set an example he should be the one that prevents and breaks up fights- not the one that starts them and takes them to another level. He should have been fired immediately. Not sure why he wasn’t.

He probably will not be fired, just the way of the world today. But, in his defense, the Wisconsin coach should have never laid hands on him and stop him walking by even with his comment about remembering. That is what started it.

Twitter is so stupid. People are defending Howard by saying "but but but it wasn't a punch, his hand is open so it was just a slap!!!" Ok yeah, sure. What fricking difference does it make?

Dear Juwan: don't start shite, won't be no shite. If you being pissed at the other coach for calling a timeout infuriates you enough to where you feel the need to confront the other coach, then you deserve whatever may come your way.

A coach has to be able to keep his head there. It’s one thing to get a technical going to bat for your guys, or exchanging an insincere good game to someone you don’t like on the handshake line but this was extreme emotional immaturity on the part of the face of your program. A complete meltdown. He’s gotta be suspended for the remainder of the season at a minimum. UM could easily justify firing him with cause.

Bottom line is there is no way in hell guys like Coach K, Izzo or Calipari would be fired if they did the same thing. Certain guys have different rules.

Howard is probably the most high profile black coach in the country. The same rules that apply to guys like K, Izzo and Calipari should apply to Howard.

First thing is you are a idiot.

Second, you cannot judge this situation off of what you think hypothetically would happen if a similar situation happened with one of these other coaches. You are just making shite up saying these wouldn't be fired because they are white. Woody Hayes got fired for the same thing 40 plus years ago and he is white.

3rd thing, again you are a idiot.

It is insane the amount of deflecting/misinformation ppl have used to deflect blame from Juwan Howard not being in control of his emotions.

Juwan Howard is the person that escalates the situation. There’s video evidence of him walking by Gard before they even touched pulling his mask down and saying “I’ll remember that sh*t” then Gard attempted to stop him and explain himself. Gard does not get aggressive. Then Howard immediately grabs Gard my the shirt and says “Don’t f-ing touch me”.

The only person to blame here Juwan Howard for being a sore loser and setting a bad example multiple times as a leader of young men.

But the society we live in will give ppl excuse after excuse for bad behavior simply because of their background l, where they’re from, etc. I think I’m honestly just more sad than anything.

Or Michigan playing full court press down 17 with less than a minute to play?

gregg marshall was considered one of the elite of the elites in CBB for the last 2 decades and he was fired for simply allegations of player mistreatment. The argument of "well if so and so did this they wouldn't get in trouble" is retarded considering so and so has in fact NOT done this, while juwan very clearly has.

It sounds like you're advocating for the EXACT opposite. You think because he's black he should get a special set of rules that others don't.
