The only people who are following an NFL reporter on twitter etc. already know who Dwayne Haskins is so they likely don't need that context

Nowhere in his tweet did he say he was a first round pick. Should he have said that? He wasn't struggling to catch on either. He made it seem like he signed as a free agent as opposed to getting picked to be the starting QB. Yea things didn't work out but to act like he was honest in that tweet is also disingenuous.

A) yes people that follow schefter would likely know Haskins. Maybe not 100% but pretty universal… but… as people retweet it not all their followers are football fans

B) if anything the tweet was generous in describing his nfl career. It’s not a phrasing I’d use but I think he probably was trying to be somewhat kind instead of saying something like he was trying to salvage his career. It wasn’t great but it’s not the disaster some portrayed. People keep pointing out he’s a human, but the most human thing of all is that we are gifted and imperfect.

He might have gotten his bell rung by the impact of the initial accident.

It sounds like his rental ran out of gas on his way to the airport and he tried running across the freeway. It’s more difficult to judge oncoming cars in the freeway and it was still dark out, so I’m sure that made it even more deceiving.

By the time the dump truck driver saw him, he tried to slam on his brakes because if he swerved he would have hit other cars.

I’m sure that truck driver is traumatized for life too. Just very sad all around.

I came across a video on Twitter of another truck driver in the area detailing what he was hearing from others.

Most articles and quotes from police don’t mention finding his car nearby and just mention walking along 595 (which is why suicide is still being brought up some), but if a rental (and also maybe in someone else’s name like agent or whatever) they could be waiting for verification on any car found abandoned nearby as being one that he would have been driving along with verifying reason for it was abandoned (mechanical or out of gas versus working perfectly).

Have there been any reports on a car found nearby that is just waiting on official verification that it was his?

Why do people actually cross over a highway? I would never do it because there is no way it's worth risking getting hit by a car/van/truck.

I 95 and 595 west bound where they said he was killed is a really weird place to be on foot. The airport is on the south side of 595 but the entrance is a good 2- 3’miles back to the east and south. He had to have been in a car that broke down but I still don’t know where he would be going there. It’s just a massive entrance exit to I 95 right there.

That first person account from a Chris Stanley (driver uninvolved but who called 911 after seeing Haskins wearing all black and wandering aimlessly on busy highway) kind of looks bad for Haskins.

It's extremely hard for me to blame someone driving a huge truck at interstate speed levels for not seeing a person crossing the interstate.

No and it now seems like the initial clumsiness by Schefter and Brandt are going to hinder the actual truth from coming out bc nobody wants to be seen as "piling on".

If he was intoxicated at the time of the incident its going to come out. Its part of the case.

Breaks my heart to read all these stories about people who knew him and played with him, especially Joe Burrow.... Was almost universally liked for his infectious smile and humble personality. Will probably go down in legendary lore at OSU for the one season he started there. It was made of that stuff as he passed for 5000 yards, had 50 passing TD's and 4 rushing. That fluke loss to either Purdue or Iowa was due to a bad defense even though they were 13-1. Rest in peace young man.

New Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mitch Trubisky invited his skill players and fellow quarterbacks to his home in Florida recently to workout and just get to know each other. At the time we said it was awkward to think fellow quarterback Mason Rudolph might attend. Rudolph and Trubisky are going to be going head-to-head for the starting quarterback job this season.

Haskins was down their at Trubisky's request

Yea it looks like for a few minutes before accident he may have already been drifting into into highway.
quote:

“And what I noticed was a Mack truck, or a big tractor-trailer, with also another vehicle that started moving a little bit to the left,” said Stanley. “I was in the left lane and then there was the right lane. And then I noticed an individual there starting to make their way onto the road."

Stanley says he saw the man's arms raised up a little bit as he appeared to be drifting into the major highway.

“He was about halfway, to a quarter way in the right lane already onto the highway and I was already concerned that somebody was going to strike him right there at that moment," he said.

Stanley says he was so concerned that he dialed 911 and shared a screenshot of his call log with NBC 6 with a call to 911 at 6:31 a.m. — six minutes before FHP says the crash was reported at 6:37 a.m.

I understand the sensitivity of the situation, but I think it's more than safe to assume, for whatever reason, his mental status was severely impaired.
Deliberately or not, drugs have to be involved, or worse, he had a severe mental breakdown and lost all sense of reality
