Uhhhhh, he was walking on am interstate hwy. He's literally a millionaire that could call and afford any transportation needed.
I haven't kept up, but this story won't be normal in any way.

with just slight changes in a basic story, you probably cover about 98% of the possibilities

did he feel unsafe waiting on the shoulder or did he worry he’d get in trouble for some reason if he stayed and police stopped to help (impaired, weapon or drugs around, etc…)

did he somehow mess up his crossing (trip, slip, poor timing) or did the driver have shared culpability (distracted, impaired, otherwise reckless)

PLus there are elevation changes in parts of the highway that may affect line of sight.

Had a friend when we were in Junior High walking along I-10 in Slidell near the service road/ car dealerships late night early morning, he was clipped by a side view mirror and killed at 13. It doesn’t take much and is a terrible thing.

Its sad because this man’s life is over. Life is a gift and now he has a family that has to grieve and mourn. I wish everyone respected other people’s lives.

I remember Michigan had a ten game winning streak going a few years ago and was issuing payback on a "revenge tour" to teams they lost to the prior year. It was going to culminate in a big win against OSU with a QB who wasn't all that mobile, which is usually Michigan's achilles heel. I thought Don Brown would dial up a great game plan and pummel OSU. Dwayne Haskins proceeded to throw for 400 yards and 6 TDs. So much for that. RIP, sir.

At least Gil apologized

I remember when Sean Taylor passed away Mike wilbon and Colin cowherd were basically saying he got what was coming to him or something along those lines.

Basically, making it seem like he lived some punk arse lifestyle.

Dwayne Haskins, a standout at Ohio State before struggling to catch on with Washington and Pittsburgh in the NFL, died this morning when he got hit by a car in South Florida, per his agent Cedric Saunders. Haskins would have turned 25 years old on May 3.

Goddamn Schefter…was that really fricking necessary?

Is it uncommon for NFL reporters to briefly summarize NFL career when reporting death even if not positive?

Seems to be an accurate take on NFL career and less harsh then it could have been. The truth is that as an NFL player he was a bust and a disappointment. He was late to meetings, not always professional, fined & had captain status revoked, and then was cut within 20 months of being a 1st round pick. He then was a 3rd stringer last season and not overly serious in prep when serving as 2nd string (due to injuries). Gil had zero tact on radio and definitely should have waited for official report on accident for why he was walking across interstate instead of basing it on his nfl career, but he also wasn’t completely wrong about his nfl career.

He had the physical skill set and probably mental ability to be a success in the NFL (probably to be great), but he hadn’t learned that he had to do more than just show up like in college and high school and/or be liked by teammates to be a successful QB and teammate in the NFL.

When reporting a death an NFL reporter shouldn’t dwell on the negative but also shouldn’t ignore it especially when the negative was his NFL career.

The only people who are following an NFL reporter on twitter etc. already know who Dwayne Haskins is so they likely don't need that context

Nowhere in his tweet did he say he was a first round pick. Should he have said that? He wasn't struggling to catch on either. He made it seem like he signed as a free agent as opposed to getting picked to be the starting QB. Yea things didn't work out but to act like he was honest in that tweet is also disingenuous.

Why do people actually cross over a highway? I would never do it because there is no way it's worth risking getting hit by a car/van/truck.

I have seen too many people not wear helmet when driving a motorcycle. Also, some people wear T-shirt and shorts with or without helmet when driving a motorcycle. Another one is speeding and cut in and out of traffic on the HWY. I feel safer driving a car that have 4 wheels than a motorcycle that doesn't have a chance when getting into a light accident. I can understand some people can't afford a car. But when people trying to be a daredevil on the highway at high speed or cutting in and out of spots that can be fatal if the other driver(s) are not alert at all times.

Robber confessed that they thought Taylor had $200k in cash in his house to steal. Maybe not unfounded.

Sure he could included being a first round pick but then he would have to mention getting cut in 20 months and being a 3rd stringer last season along with why he failed in Washington and never played a down in Pittsburgh; or he could have just low keyed it like he did.

Yes, he was a restricted free agent not a full free agent due to time in league, but he was also just tendered a one year deal in March in a hope that he would finally do what he was capable of doing not picked as starter yet.

quote:

According to NFL reporter Doug Kyed, the Pittsburgh Steelers are placing an original-round tender on restricted free agent quarterback Dwayne Haskins. This means Haskins will make $2.54 million this season and if a team wants to sign him, they would have to give up a first-round draft pick.
What all of this means is there is zero doubt Haskins will be on the roster. The only question is where Haskins will land on the depth chart at the start of the season. Haskins spent the bulk of the season inactive at the team’s No. 3 quarterback.

As there have been a few recent Ohio State QBs who were really great at Ohio State but not so much in the NFL including his teams was helpful but maybe adding his starting year would have helped even more. Not every NFL fan pays attention to who the Steelers 3rd string qb was in 2021, and I actually did need to quickly go back over QBs from Miller to Haskins to remember the order they played at OSU and who was still playing pro football. I don’t mean that a slight as they were great at Ohio State. I actually thought Barrett was going to develop and still be in the league now, but I also needed a reminder today of his name and when he played as well.

We're both lucid right now.

He might have gotten his bell rung by the impact of the initial accident.

I thought there was no initial accident. That he was just roaming around
