It’s way past time to rename some of these conferences

The Big 12 would be a huge step down from the ACC There are zero blue bloods or power football schools in the Big 12.
What are yall talking about?
Utah, OK State, TCU, Arizona, K State, UCF, BYU, Colorado, Baylor and Houston
Vs
Georgia Tech, Miami, UNC, NC State, SMU, Cal, Stanford, Louisville, Pitt, Syracuse, Boston college and Duke
Maybe I just have a central/western regional bias but I think the teams in the Big12 are better than the ACC.
When is the last time an ACC team not named FSU or Clemson even had a great season like a NY6 win and or top 10 finish? I don’t see how the Big12 would hurt Clemson and FSU it’s an upgrade. A minor upgrade albeit.
The large issue here is Notre fricking Dame. They refuse to join the ACC. That would solve all of these issues and put any realignment to bed for good.

You even forgot WVU and Iowa State who has been better than most of those teams for awhile now.

Even-numbered is better than odd. Ideal number is 2, because a championship game has 2 teams... however, college has too many teams for that. So you'd think 4 (2 pairs) would be the way to go.
I could see Big 10/Big 12 on one side, vs SEC/ACC, where you'd have some geographic continuity. Or, Big 10/ACC vs SEC/Big 12, makes both a bit more spread nationally.
Only reason I could see 3, is if you think you can overtake one of the big 2 by consolidating. I really don't think you can, although nothing lasts forever. Big 12 seemed damned impressive with Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, A&M, and Colorado... they're all gone now, 2 of them are garbage, and Nebraska seems like they are permanantly broken.

I don't understand their end game.
They SEC doesn't seem to want them, doubt the Big 10 adds them at a full payout, when Oregon and Washington are partials. Add in the legal fees and ACC payout, it doesn't make any sense.

You’re further proving my point.
I’m not saying there’s zero quality ACC teams. But if you liked all 16 up and they faced off, I would bet the house that the Big12 wins more games.
It’s obviously not the SEC or even the Big10 but the Big12 is definitely superior to the ACC especially now that it’s added Cal and Stanford. I’ll give SMU some credit. They’re ok

Yeah I'm still waiting for an answer as who are the other really good and better programs in the ACC after Clemson and FSU. Nobody can say VT because they have been horrible recently.

Rumor: SEC turns down FSU and Clemson, Big 12 could poach six ACC schools
Longtime college football radio host Greg Swaim dropped the bombshell of all conference realignment bombshells in revealing that both the Big Ten and SEC turned down FSU and Clemson and the Big 12 is now in pursuit of six ACC teams.
"As we've said for a year, FSU and Clemson will not get a B1G offer, due to neither being AAU accredited," Swaim prefaced before saying, "But from Vegas the talk is the SEC has now turned the pair down. With new sponsorship the B12 probably won't pay quite what the other two do, but with those two they'll pay double what the ACC does.

You would have B12 FSU traveling to Utah
While B10 USC travels to NJ
They could wave at each other on their flights as they cross

At this time they may as well stay in the ACC if the Big 12 is the move because the Big 12 will inevitably become what the ACC is now from a football standpoint

I'm proud of the SEC for at least maintaining regional cohesiveness.

That would be a lateral move. The future of college football is 2 conferences. You’re either in them or you’re going to get screwed
Well yeah, but those are conferences that call you, you don’t call them

Yes this is dumb.
BUT if non-conference games are eliminated it’s kind of moot
LSU is currently in the middle of home and homes (pseudo) with USC and UCLA.

I don’t think this can be overstated. If a person is USC fan they have one game they can feasibly drive to out of the whole conference. It’s never going to work long term. The B10 teams have 0 in common.
SEC has grown smartly imo. And I think it pays off in the long run. Its all the non football sports that will pay an even bigger price in those other conferences with travel.
What they might end up doing is finding a place halfway (so midwest) and have teams meet there for games. For example they might have 4-6 far west/east teams meet in this spot and stay for a week and the teams play each other.

FSU and Clemson joining any other conference besides the SEC for football would be so, so dumb for the sport.

Because the only two schools that generate super conference TV revenue in the B12 would be the two that would be joining in this scenario.
This is about money pure and simple. The tv networks aren’t going to pay super conference money for a conference with mid tier TV interest.
Their only shot would be getting Amazon or Apple to overpay to get into the game and if that’s what they wanted to do they would’ve done so when the SEC or B10 were negotiating recently.

If so that’s a mistake on the part of the conference but what it actually means is that ESPN said they wouldn’t pay more money to add them to the deal.

Don't forget about ACC Cal & Stanford traveling from the SF Bay Area to play Miami
