No but most minor leaguers never come close to the Bigs. So it's not a big deal.

One of my buddies played triple A baseball. I said man you were really close on making it to MLB. He said no I was never close. He said there were so many players in triple A that were a lot better than he was and they never were going to play in the Majors. After an injury he quit baseball all together. And he was making practically nothing when he played.

I like how people ITT discount hitting .273 in AA ball.

All them guys in AA were "that guy" for their entire baseball career on every team they played for. They are not scrubs. And they did it full time.

Tebow picked up a bat and did what he did in what, 2 years?

Impressive.

Edited, time in minors.

Wasn’t he basically just in the minor leagues? LOL

Tebow was a freak athlete. Makes sense a team would give him a couple seasons to see if he could develop into a baseball player.

We were discussing the baseball bat bros and how it would be cool if Will got a spring training invite with a team.

So on the one hand, OP is upset that a freak professional athlete in prime physical condition that had draftable baseball talent out of high school got a Minor league deal.

But on the other hand, OP thinks it would be cool if a you tube baseball bat reviewer got a spring training invite.

Cool!!!!

Sometimes people are just freak athletes that deserve some extra attention even if their prior experience in the sport is “limited”. Tebow is one of those.

WWE wrestler Brock Lesner quit wrestling at one point and tried out as a DE with the Minnesota Vikings, making it to the final set of cuts despite not having played since HS 6+ years earlier.

He also won the UFC HW championship.

He did UFC after he missed the cut for the Vikings, which is why I didn’t mention it.

Still a freak athlete who was successful in pretty much whatever he tried.

So if some random 28-30 year old dude releases a statement saying he wants to make a go at MLB and invites MLB scouts to watch him hit, how many scouts show up?

Have you not seen The Rookie?

quote:

Jim Morris is a Texas high school chemistry teacher and coach of the school's baseball team. He's always loved baseball and as a way of motivating his players, he agrees to go to a professional try-out if they win the championship. He once had aspirations to be a professional baseball player but an injury brought that to an end. Sure enough, the 39 year-old father of three finds himself at a camp for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and he somehow seems to have regained his pitching arm, easily throwing a 98 mph fastball. Signed to a contract, he toils in the minor leagues while his supportive wife stays home raising their children. He soon finds himself called up to the big club and pitching for Tampa which is in Texas playing the Rangers. Based on a true story.—garykmcd

AA is the hitters league. AAA is the pitchers league. His stats in both reflect that.
