quote:

“I anticipate them bunkering down. I think they are going to play really hard, and really well this year. Hopefully if they do that, maybe they can quiet it down a little bit, proving this will be a fresh slate for them. “But I’m telling you, we played fair and square last year. I didn’t see anything in 2018 either. I really didn’t. But no one wants to hear it now.’’

quote:

Even in his own clubhouse, he hears teammates like Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres accuse the Astros of cheating last year too, when they knocked the Yankees out of the playoffs. They insist that since the Astros were never caught cheating in the previous two years, why would they have stopped? Cole will gladly tell them the truth. He has nothing to hide. But no one is listening. “Everybody is entitled to their opinion,’’ he said, “it’s their own opinion. People handle this the way they want to handle it. We’re all grown guys around here. I’m certainly not going to tell somebody how to think. I’m personally not offended about it.

That's a shame. Dude is a stud. Hope he bounces back. I also hope he sucks when he plays against the Astros... but other than that, he's fun to watch.

Verlander scratched from his Spring Training debut, which was slated for Thursday.

Groin discomfort and he will throw a sim game instead which is encouraging that he still plans on facing live batters.

Gotta love Cole basically saying his teammates are full of shite and should quit running their mouths.

New GM being interviewed on the Astros broadcast right now, if anyone is interested.

Urquidy gave up a 2-run homer in 1 and 1/3rd innings and Ferrell gave up a first pitch homer before escaping a bases loaded jam to close the inning out. Smith with a 1,2,3 inning.

Miles straw with his second homer of the spring. 2-run shot. 3-2 cards in the 3rd.

Bregs ties it with a solo homer.

Forrest Whitley starts the 4th. 1,2,3 inning for Whitley.

In the other split squad game Austin Pruitt with 3 shutout innings of 1-hit ball. Astros jumped out to a 2-0 and then 3-1 lead. Biagini looking to give up the lead though. 2 runs given up in his 1.1 innings and a guy on base. Brantley 2-2, garneau and diaz with rbi doubles. Tucker still looking for his first hit of the spring.

Whitley struggling in his second inning. Command just disappeared. 2 hits sandwiched around a walk leads to a run after a leadoff flyout. Strikes out a batter for 2nd out and leaves with 2 on and 2 outs and 36 pitches in 1 and 2/3rds innings.

Scrubb, the guy we picked up from the dodgers last year walked one of whitley’s runners in and then gave up a base hit that scored the other one and also one of his own. 7-3 cards.

A couple of observations. Outfielder Dawson is nowhere close to making this roster. He lollipopped a throw home on that basehit that scored two and allowed everyone to move up a base. I also listened to the Detroit game the other day and the Detroit announcers described a throw he made from short right as one of the worst they’d seen.

Strom got tossed during the last half inning for arguing a missed strike call that would have ended the inning with a 4-3 cards lead. He had a legit gripe too. Ball should have been a strike.

Straw with an inside the park homer makes it 7-4. That’s 3 homers for straw this spring.

I watched the early inning of both games. Urquidy's command was shaky. He was leaving a lot of pitches high in the zone and the Cards weren't chasing anything.

Austin Pruitt cruised through 3 innings. I think he was at like 22 pitches and generated inning ending double plays in the 1st and 2nd. I'm looking forward to seeing more of him.

Pruitt seems like he could at least fill a Peacock type role pretty well. Solid long reliever/5th starter swing man type. Hopefully he can be more than that
