Phew boy that finish on the second homer was very Correa esque.
Posted on 2/25/25 at 3:20 pm to TigerFan91
Yeah he’s got that natural inside out finish

Meanwhile, Fortner Whitman isn't injured yet and pitched a clean inning with 2K. Fastball was up to 97.
He's out of minor league options so he's either got to make the team, gets DFA'D off the roster or pass through waivers.
Would the universe implode if he and McCullers somehow pitched in the same game this year?

They'd have to change the name of the joint to Daikin Urgent Care.

If tweet fails to load, click here. I'm excited to see how this dude develops. Looks the part physically and already seems comfortable and mature in clubhouse interviews.

Something Brown said in the booth on the Tucker deal
“We traded one year of control for 14 years of control”
Definitely one way to look at it. Regardless of how Tucker performs this year, it was a great deal for the Astros without Wesneski

If Wesneski and Smith turn this into Straw for Yainer and Maton, then it will be a good trade.
I just wish Brown would shut the frick up about it until that happens. Dude has talked more and said less than Luhnow and Click combined.

I still would have much rather kept Tucker. It’s not my money though I guess. In the context of basically having to trade him (since they weren’t going to resign him) I like the deal they made.
I have no idea if Crane’s contract length rule applies to players younger than 25-26 but it’s fricking retarded and basically guarantees they will never keep a premium young player

Tucker is a proven commodity. I agree that this self-imposed restraint is going to eventually end this run if the farm system doesn’t produce replacements. And let’s not put Smith in Cooperstown yet because of 2 spring training HRs.
As for years of control, how many years of control have the Astros had of hyped Pedro Leon and Forrest Whitley, and how many of those years have been as major-leaguers?
Again, Brown talks way too much.

Yes I hate the “years of control” argument personally
Posted on 2/26/25 at 9:21 am to ShaneTheLegLechler
Looked it up: Astros drafted Whitley in ‘17 and signed Leon in ‘21, both to much fanfare. Doing the math and counting 2025, that’s almost 14 years of control combined. Leon and Whitley have combined for 0.027 years of big-league service time.
And I know Brown isn’t responsible for either of those picks or signings. But the point is that he’s an idiot to speak as if the guys he got for Tucker automatically will turn into many years of serviceable big-leaguers.

Well to be fair to Dana, Parades and Wesneski already have a couple of years each being serviceable big leaguers. Nothing wrong with him assuming they’ll be that until they reach free agency or become more costly. Now counting on Smith to be the “aircraft carrier” and all that is a lot of pressure on the kid publicly to live up to some pretty incredible hype and is probably way to early to count your chickens on those years.
They could also both plummet and provide zero big league value and Smith could bust. To this point when it comes to finding value I think Dana’s done an okay job continuing what the previous leadership has done and it’s a little early to tell on the scouting of young talent side of it.
He does talk entirely too much without saying anything though and probably overshares and puts himself into bad corners, but that’s whatever fans are going to nitpick it either way. I certainly would wish he would be more cliche because he does say some stupid arse shite a lot where you wonder how he climbed the ladder to where he is.
Finally, to everyone else’s point Tucker should have been the one to get the massive extension or at least give yourself a punchers chance to resign in the open market. Sure he probably wants to test free agency anyway but that’s a guy I think you let get there and say no one outbids us
ETA: shite I just think I Dana Brown'd out and just did a stream of consciousness spilling that is entirely too wordy and probably makes me look regarded

Let's be clear -- Tucker was gone. Period. Full stop.
He was not going to stay in Houston.

Yea that's why I said he still gets to free agency but at least give yourself a chance to put the best offer on the table in front of him!

Why does Jake look like a 45 year old divorced dad who doesn't see his kids?

That's the look you get when you realize Cam Smith is coming for your job.

Yainer homered today. Framber went 2 hitless innings, 4 groundball outs. Paredes worked a walk ahead of the Yainer bomb.
I'm feeling pretty optimistic about that Paredes, Yed, Walker, Yainer chunk of the order.
