Jim and Jeff....stop it right now.

I have literal negative interest in trading for Arenado. I’d prefer Crane to pay them to not trade him to us

It would make this year's team better in some ways. Gives the offense more depth and way better defense at the hot corner.
I just don't have much interest either paying an aging Arenado for the next 3 years or paying the prospect cost to get the Cardinals to pay it down for us.

Meanwhile in the traveling squad game, Brice Matthews put us on the board with an RBI double

Defense yes, he’s already doing the heavy offensive regression

Unless they are paying most of his salary I don’t want it

Yeah I don’t get the fascination with him. It appears they are all in on moving Altuve to the OF, but I feel like there are better potential solutions.
I don’t think Paredes is a middle infielder and I don’t think Arenado is going to age well. See how the year starts and go find a 2B if Altuve takes to the outfield (and someone doesn’t step up there). If he doesn’t, move him back and find an OFer. I think it would take quite the meltdown for us to not be in contention come July

My sense though with how these things have gone with this front office (ie Crane and Bagwell) is they are going to make it happen if they are this fixated on it, unless Arenado just really decides he doesn’t want to play here.
Only upside I see is he will for sure fill a gap veteran leadership wise in the clubhouse

Defense yes
I mean what he'd be offsetting would be Dubon or Rodgers playing 2nd. Low bar he'd surely clear and by default make the offense better. But you're right, a once great player showing clear signs of age related decline. I feel like we've just gotten a lesson in such a player recently. Stay away.

But if one of those plays 2B with Arenado at 3B, what about Paredes?
Do they use him to try and get OF help?
I have no idea what they’re doing.

Yep. Arenado at 3B, Paredes at 2B, you move Dubon back to utility and keep Rodgers as depth or keep him in the minors to either call up or eventually let go.

Makes sense. It’s just a weird way to go about replacing Tucker. It’s essentially as if they replaced him with Altuve and backfilled at 2B. The issue is, even in that situation, they still need another outfielder.

You aren’t taking into account what Walker is bringing and how the infield would be amplified and you are just trying to get by with the OF led by Tuve. Walker, Peña, Parades, Arenado is a plus offensive and defensive lineup over last year.
I’d hope if they are reengaging with they are asking for more money from the Cards than the original offer considering how cooled off Arenado’s market is. This doesn’t really feel like real traction to me. I like Nolan but he’d probably bring you over the tax and I’m not sure if he’s a player you are okay with going over for.

Arenado has 3 years on his deal, age 34, 35, 36 seasons.
Abreu's first year in Houston was his age 36* season.
*allegedly
I'd definitely want money back though as he's clearly no longer worth his current salary. Or you'd have to get him for no prospect capital.

Astros are one of 8 remaining MLB teams not offering a stand alone in market streaming service.
Phillies
Orioles
Nationals
Athletics
Mariners
Giants
Dodgers
Astros
Stuck in the past and gotta be tied to a subscription TV service to watch games. Annoying. In 2023, I used MLB.tv with a. VPN but MLB started cracking down in the 2nd half of the season and it was pretty hit and miss. Went back to the stream sites last year and methstreams was great but that's been nuked. I tried streameast and the others to try to watch some of yesterday's game and it was an unwatchable lag fest.

I’ve never had a single issue with MLB.tv plus using Unlocator as the VPN.
Does it suck having to pay an extra $10 a month on top of the $130 for the MLB package? Yes it absolutely does but I at least get my monies worth with how many games I consume.

Spaghetti battled his control in his first inning. 3 walks. Ended up with
2IP 1H 0R 3BB 2K.
Yainer singled in his first AB. It's mostly a C squad lineup today.
