If tweet fails to load, click here. I hope this is true and whatever approach the Astros had last year doesn’t rub off on them.

He does look different.

“I’ve [reshaped] my body and I’ve also lost weight,” he said. “I’ve lost about 25 pounds. I followed a serious weight-lifting program. I’m stronger than I’ve ever been. A lot has changed.”
quote:
Singleton said the numbers he’s putting up in the weight room are the best of his life. He can squat 505 pounds, bench press 385 pounds and deadlift 665 pounds. He alternates working on his chest one day, his legs the next and his back the day after that.
Very impressive and good for him.

Hard to not root for Singleton

Paredes and Walker were set to make their debuts today but the game was rained out.

Thought this was a bit interesting. Who benefits more: Altuve or Judge?
Yankees fans and his personal fluffer Avery continually say that Judge is screwed the most by umpires.
We shall see.

TRADE RUMOR??????: The Astros and Cardinals are in agreement on a deal sending 8-time All-Star Nolan Arenado to Houston, per Holly Baylor.
Jon Singleton, Mauricio Dubon, Cash Considerations and Martin Maldonado are heading to St. Louis.
NOT CONFIRMED

FWIW Boob Nightengale was on 610 and said there's nothing happening on the Arenado stuff and the thought is he wouldn't waive his no trade at this point anyway. Astros are ready to set their roster with the bodies in camp.
So Arenado will probably be an Astro sometime tomorrow.

we MIGHT be able to trade pitching for an everyday bat

Roster Outlook (since I guess this is our spring training thread)
Position Players
Locks to make it
Catcher (2):
Yainer
Caratini
Infield/Utility (5):
Walker
Altuve
Dubon
Pena
Paredes
Outfield/DH (3):
Yordan
Meyers
Chas
That leaves three spots for guys like Singleton, Dezenzo, Gamel, Rodgers, Trammell etc to fight over. I think Singleton is pretty likely to start the year as a lefty bench option, and I would be a little surprised if Gamel is let go even though his deal wasn’t guaranteed. The last spot seems totally up for grabs. How Altuve looks in the OF may influence whether they want to keep Rodgers vs an extra OF
Pitching
Locks
Starters (4)
Framber
Brown
Blanco
Spaghetti
Likely Fifth Starter/Roster lock (1)
Wesneski
Bullpen (4)
Hader
Abreu
Scott
King
I suppose it’s possible someone else grabs the fifth starter spot but I would think it’s Wesneski’s to lose. I listed injured starters estimated return to the best of my knowledge below (with some mild discomfort sure to change these dates)
If Dubin and Ort are healthy I think they start the year on the roster. King has options but I can’t imagine him starting in AAA with how thin the back end of this group is. Whitley doesn’t have options, I would think he finally gets an extended shot in the pen. This seems prime for some non roster guys (Montero!) to make the club in the pen and navigating the 6th or 7th is going to be an adventure early in the year.
*If* a couple starters below can come back healthy mid year and we get some good luck I think the bullpen could go from weakness to strength shifting guys like Spaghetti or Blanco in there.
Garcia - May? June?
France - July
Javy - July/August
McCullers - LMAO
This was done while eating my lunch, so let me know what I forgot

I think you got it covered well.
Just wanted to add that I caught some discussion in the booth during the broadcast with Brown while home to grab something for lunch.
Always like when Blum and Kalas have to inform our GM how many innings Blanco threw last year and that he did qualify for final standings in ERA
