I feel like most of this board knew Bregman was gone this offseason. Baffling that the FO didn’t try to trade him at the deadline for something. Looking like another all-star that walks away from the organization without anything in return (a useless compensatory pick)

Sooner the better, so we can get started with our offseason. Don't really mind him in Boston and look forward to him pissing off NYY fans even more.
Love the idea of trading Tucker for young guys who can fill 1B and 3B. If Crane isn't going to compete for the big boys in FA you kinda have to make moves like that. It's not like the farm is filling those holes anytime soon.

I don’t agree it’s at it’s peak with just one year of control left but they should still get a good return if they deal him now
Do you think his value is going to go up?
Sure, he would have pulled a good haul 2 years ago, but his value is peak for the duration of his time as an Astros player.
On topic of Framber, what can he pull?
Does Dana consider moving both Tucker and Valdez?

No. It’s without a doubt down from where it was after 2022 or 2023 though. One year left where he’s going to make 16-18 million vs the multiple cheaper years of control before this one. He put up a couple 5 WAR years in 21 and 22. There’s a reason why Tampa doesn’t wait to trade their guys until before the last year. They do it as they’re entering arb or right after. Our fans would have (rightfully) revolted if we had done that though

I don’t see a ton of difference in what we would get in return for trading Tuck now compared to what we’d get at the deadline from a team that’s going all in. He would be the best player available at the deadline
But I don’t really see us trading him at the deadline unless of course we were way behind in the division. If we decide to keep him this winter and are in the playoff hunt, we will hold onto him

I wonder if the Cubs would include Isaac Paredes in a deal for Tucker

I honestly don't know what to make of where we're headed under Crane. You can't call him cheap. During this run, he's maintained high payrolls, he's added players to bolster the teams at the trade deadline. But he seems to have planted his heels on this 6 year no higher than 160 cap.
You can certainly argue that letting Springer and Correa was the right call. Have they been worth the contracts they got? Probably not. However what the Crane strategy means in the broader view is that you're not going to go after top tier free agents and you're not going to retain any home grown star players.
I can understand if you're going to say, hey we're not going to commit multi hundreds of millions to players on the back side of their prime years. To his credit, he was able to lock up 3 core players to below market deals in their prime years (Altuve, Bregman, Yed). But if you're going to stick with below market deals, you have to be willing to wheel and deal within those limitations you've placed on yourself. You have to be the Rays. If you're not willing to sign guys to market contracts and know they're going to walk, you've got to replace them. You can't hang on to them through years end and then get nothing but a compensation pick that's penalized and dropped to a lower round for exceeding the tax threshold.
The strategy here is a little bit all over the map. We're not throwing crazy money around like the Dodgers, Mets or Yankees but were also not committed to competitive frugality like the Rays. Where do you end up if you've got a high payroll team that's comptetive enough to be drafting at the back end of rounds, you don't retain or sign high level free agents and you find yourself without the talent to fill those gaps.
I think we're headed toward another lengthy and painful rebuild. All that being said, my leaning would be if we don't sign Bregman, it's time to trade Framber and Tuck.

Astros are no longer serious about put competing for championships.

But I don't want Jorge Polanco, Jim.

Interesting that news leaks after Rosenthal says Bregman probably isn’t going back to the Astros unless they improve their offer.

I bet he has an solid offer from Boston already, but Astros have an opportunity to match

Yeah, it seems like negotiating through the media, which usually isn’t good.

Good news. We’re making progress according to Dana. Not making signings. But making progress. WTF that mean?

Fried got 8/218 from the Yankees. He's probably a fairly good comp for Framber. Trade him.

For some reason I thought Parades was in his early 30s, he’s only 25 definitely someone that can help long term. Woudl love to have him.

Astros not on Arenado’s shortlist. Goddammit, Crane better re-sign Bregman

Time to trade for Correa and put him at 3B.
