Yeah, I think this is in the back of everyone's minds. But you probably should at least have a back up plan that is something besides Alvarez in LF.

Mind you I have some concerns about a 36 year old outfielder coming off his 3rd major shoulder surgery. Same surgery a much younger Jake Meyers had and you see the impact it had on him. Put Brantley in left and his arm probably warrants an automatic wave around 3rd.

Anyone think there's any chance we get Benitendi? How about Conforto?

Either one of them make a lot of sense so apparently no based on current trends.

a competent GM

Benntiendi makes all the sense in the world. He is exactly what this team needs and looking at the market now worth paying for. I don't get it. At this point Yainer might be the DH

Has anyone heard about WS shares and who all was voted one?
I’m sure Castro was voted a full share, but I’m curious about Odorizzi

I may be off-base, but I’m willing to see what happens with some call-ups before throwing money at the remaining free agents. I like Benintendi in LF, but if we don’t get him for a borderline reasonable contract I’m all for seeing what the farm system can give us up until the trade deadline.

Carlito got his mega deal. 13 years 350 million with the Giants

Happy for him
But that’s a bad deal. How many full seasons has he played, and how’s that back gonna age in that cold, windy park?
Not to mention how that spacious place affects his power numbers
Owners have much more revenue than anyone has estimated, and/or they’re being quite reckless

All I can do is shake my head at some of these contracts. Some are just blatantly bad deals
Good for Carlos

Like has been said, happy for him but man that is a bad bad contract for SF, especially given his injury-prone-ness. I can't blame them for wanting a player like him but the blatant over spending on players that simply are not elite level is absurd.

It is an insanely bad deal, if the giants are expecting him to actually hold value for 13 years.
Realistically, they’re probably just hoping for a good five, possibly 6 years of plus-value. Then maybe two more at serviceable value.
I’m happy he got his deal. I hope he shoves it down the Dodgers throats every time they play the giants.

I hope we don't get involved in overpaying like SF did.

All these huge deals are like this. The back third is going to be sunk cost, the first third should be positive value... how is that middle third going to go?

I think he will hit for a higher avg in that park and slug well. Especially with the shift somewhat going away. He's not really a HR guy.
This is the way of the future. If you don't tear it down and build a stacked farm system (which will be impossible to do in the coming years) you must spend big to have a chance to truly win. The Astros have 2 years to win a other one based on how they currently do business.

seems like they took a few years off from getting burned by Chris Davis-type of deals. Now they just need a reminder that long-term deals to players approaching 30 are a terrible idea.

3 years
Bregman and Tuve will be FAs in 2025 but I don't think Tuve goes anywhere.
The rest of the core (and Abreu) have 3 or more years of contract/control left.

The majority owners and Manfred will begin to step on the dicks of the ones that went off the reservation.
