quote:I seem to remember Feliz was great the first half of last season.
Feliz has all the potential but just don’t see him putting it together.
He sputtered after the all-star break and never regained his form.
His next step is putting it together for a whole season. I still think he'll be good.

There's the pre-Verlander, 3 outcome, anti-old school Luhnow who rubbed people the wrong way and was met w cold shoulders, and now you're looking at the post-Verlander, WS winning, trend setting genius who is the toast of the town.
I was old school as they come, but was willing to accept the paradigm shift in the game. I couldn't however understand how our teams through '16 just didn't seem to value the QAB.
Knowing secondhand some of the backlash Luhnow was encountering from the Cardinals deal, I was frustrated. But, since he and Crane got the Verlander deal done, I have been Team Luhnow.
This Cole deal has to have every GM in the game lowering their head.

Oh man. I fell asleep because I woke up for 4am to go to work.
Wake up from a nap from this.
Luhnow the Magician. Love what Musgrove did but the team not the Farm took legit hits.

Oh and btw.....
Luhnow and Crane is only in it for the money and no interest in winning.

Not the time to worry about it but interested to see the outlook of our staff after the 2019 season with JV DK and Cole all gone
The only one they’ll lose will be DK, correct? Cole and Verlander will be FA in 2020.
I think this Cole acquisition speaks volumes when it comes to their future plans with Kuechel. Meaning, there are none.

Keuchel is a FA after 2018 season, Verlander and Cole are FAs after 2019.

Not worried about losing Keuchel. He's been hurt for the better part of the last 2 years. He pitched pretty well in the playoffs but it was tough to count on him for most of the season. I really wouldn't give him big money considering his injury history.
Hopefully he stays healthy and plays well to earn a big contract for the upcoming season. Whether that contract comes from the Astros or not.

It would suck to lose Dallas but it would be tough to pay him $25+ mil a year with the injuries the last 2 years. Love the Cole signing.

I think everyone who follows the team closely understands this is likely DK's last year in Houston. I want no part of a long term deal with him honestly

NEIFI Analytics? @NEIFIco
With Cole, Astros now project at 103.5 2018 wins. Easily the highest pre-season W projection NEIFI has ever forecast.

Hate losing Joe Camel, but this is a trade win for us.

The #Astros declared Forrest Whitley, Kyle Tucker, Derek Fisher and Yordan Alvarez off limits in a Cole deal, sources said. #Pirates thought the Musgrove-Moran tandem was strongest of any they were offered for Cole. They also get 15 years of control with Musgrove, Moran, Feliz.

Pump the brakes guys. On paper this trade looks outstanding AF. But Cole has trended down the past 2 seasons and Joe is going to be a fine pitcher.
