Yup. He never had the team around him Brady had. Never had that defense, a Moss, or those tight ends.

Brady would have struggled against those 49ers.

Marino was like Elway. They both had decent receivers but not Rice or Keyshawn level. Had weak running games, ok defenses.

Marino took his team as far as he could but when he runs faces a more complete team, he has to win the game all by himself, hence the playoff struggles. Elway had same problem, he was just able to get to Super Bowl before Broncos were exposed.

I was a huge Joe Namath fan, but his stats are not HOF worthy. His career completion pct. was only 50.1% and he threw 220 pics vs 173 TD. The reason he is in the HOF is because he was likable and played in New York. The word “great” is the most misused word when it comes to evaluating talent, whether it be athletic or musical. Lots of subjectivity.

Dan greatest thrower. Tom greatest QB and winner. 7 Super Bowl wins with 2 different teams in 2 different conferences and 10 appearances. Dan? 0 wins, 1 appearance. Lavar has brain damage.

If only Dan the man could've had a team ( defense and all) like Montana and Brady had

Lofty recap of how Marino chocked like a dog every time the lights were bright.

He barely cracks my top 10.

Can kind of see an argument for Marino, but winning that ring in Tampa Bay removes all doubt, if there was any.

Peak Rodgers threw it as well, his ball just looked different.

I wonder how many college QB’s could have won a national title with Rickey Jackson, Russ Grimm, Jimbo Covert, Hugh Green, and Mark May on their team.

Marino had two of the Hogs plus another NFL Hall of Famer on his fricking college offensive line.

Marino was drafted by a team that made it to the Super Bowl the year before and went 11-5 and the divisional round the year after he retired.

Marino only played for two coaches in the NFL and both are Hall of Famers who won multiple Super Bowls without him.

It’s a myth that Marino always played like a superstar and lost every consequential game because everyone else sucked.

Did Marino have the best supporting cast in the history of football? No. But he had enough to win a natty and make more than one Super Bowl in the inferior AFC of the ‘80s and ‘90s if he were the superhuman GOAT some people think he is.

Marino threw bombs on a dime, with no pass protection. Brady threw 5 yard slants with tons of RAC yards. With the refs chop blocking for him

First off that’s not true! Secondly, that doesn’t make you a great QB even if it is true! Jay Cutler threw a great ball, nobody says that about him

I think it has more to do with the fact that he was the NFL's first real super star who appeared in multiple magazines, television shows, and films over the course of his professional career. He put the National Football League on the map in a way no other player had done before him. The "guarantee" also didn't hurt his legacy. If we're talking about fame, Namath is easily one of the most famous football players who ever lived.

Dan Marino was a fantastic QB. Kinda wild he only had 5 seasons with 11 or more wins. Maybe 4. During a prime time of his career - missed playoffs 3 straight seasons.

Still, you can’t overlook some playoff shortcomings (22-21 San Diego loss, up 15 at half).

Every thought 1985 Bears were going to get a rematch against Marino in SB (only loss). But Pats won AFCCG.

Patriots were a more complete team. Don't think Dolphins had anyone equivalent of Tippett on defense, for example.

I've answered this as there can be a difference between "best" and "great". Marino is the best thrower ever, like my dad said he looked he had a string on the ball. But Brady is greater because of the SPs, leadership, and will to win

Namath had narrative and narrative gets you a long way in historical assessments.

Plus peak Joe Willie was about a quick release more than stupendous arm strength although he was not “unarmed” there.
