Damn, what did I miss with his time and exit from Oklahoma?

It's grossly exaggerated. It wasn't so bad that you wouldn't want to coach the team you won a fricking national championship for. And there's family ties.
The "why would you want to change when you have it good at Tennessee" are valid arguments.
The drama stuff is a nothingburger.

And, Tennessee hasn't won squat since 1998. Which BTW, they were one of the weakest NC of all time. Sure, it counts, but does anyone really remember that team? Lsu completely broke that program in the 2001 SECCG , and it took 22 years to come back to relevance.

Fun fact: Mike Dubose has a more recent SEC title than Tennessee and he was fired 25 years ago.

I say yes. The buffets in Oklahoma are nothing to sneeze at. I’d think they’d be able to lure him away with feedback as well

Not unless Tenn fans and media put the pressure on him to leave.
Tenn job>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> OU in SEC
$, Fanbase, etc Tenn is a damn good job, and i know they have retarded fans, so they get dog piled on, but it's a job you can win and be on national stage, yearly.

If they're is ever ANY question as to why Arkansas can't be successful it's this. Arkansas just does not produce high caliber high school football recruits at any sort of a level that can be described as anything besides extremely minimal.

Why would OU want Heupel?

He’s in the Big Ten though…

That’s why he would go to OU

TN would put up a big fight if he goes 9-3 this year after the Nico drama. Heupel has done things that no one else has in done in Knoxville for 20 years.
Better question is if UT goes 7-5 this year, how much would UT fight to hang onto Heupel

First, they didn't treat him particularly well in his time as a coach there.
Second, sometimes it's best to be coaching away from your Alma Mater. You can bring traditions and influences that worked at the program where you played to your current school and let go of ones that you thought may be holding you or a program back.
I can't imagine that someone like Dabo would have found the level of success at Bama like he has at Clemson. He needed to find somewhere to define his personal style while being influenced by Bama. It's rare to find a situation like Kirby has at Georgia.

Of course. People should know better than to say anything could never happen when it comes to college coaches/sports

Hawgndodge,
Neither does Oklahoma. In 2024 class, they didn't. Have a player in top 250. Some player could of had his mom suck one of the rivals guys dick to get another star, but when I looked at players in top250 they had none from th state. I know rankings change, guys get pushed up because of who offered, but ou has to have tejas kids to even compete.

Louisiana and Texas are right there easily recruitable, plus we’re in the NIL era anyway, do they really need to?

Arkansas is different. Always has been. If you want to find real success in Arkansas football since being in the SEC you have to find Arkansas kids. It just means more to them. I know that's sounds cliche but it's just the truth.
Madre Hill
Cedric Cobbs
Casey Dick
Matt Jones
Joe Adams
Jarius Wright
Greg Childs
Darren McFadden
Ryan Mallett
Tyler Wilson
Brandon Allen
For the most part any success Arkansas has had in the SEC when it comes to football has had a team with an Arkansas kid as it's leader.

You sure about that? Oklahoma has oil money. What does Tennessee have?
Yes, OU is a step below money-wise to the cream of the SEC. Their new GM literally this week just said they are only recruiting "our 5-stars" i.e. they can't or wont pay enough to get the top talent.

So some wanker ranker that you pay 5.99 a month to get their hot take over a guy that evaluated talent for the NFL?

Better access to recruits and a bigger SEC footing.

Geographic distance to Dallas/NTX isn’t the same advantage it was even 10 years ago. NIL is now everything.
It seems like you're arguing against yourself here...Tennessee's in a recruiting hotbed but Oklahoma's recruiting hotbed "doesn't matter"? And wouldn't NIL matter even MORE in SEC country (lots of rural & poorer communities)
I agree Tennessee is a much more "traditional" SEC program, but Oklahoma is head and shoulders above everyone but Bama & OSU as far as overall program history.
I think Tenn has signed some nice money deals though that give them an edge unless Oklahoma can step their own NIL program up
