Yeah, people nationally were comparing Heyward to Mays and Aaron during ST of his rookie year.
Strasburg is the greatest pitching prospect the world has ever known.
I do think Bryce's hype has somehow outdone this, only because it started at a much younger age.

I mentioned in another thread I think Ryan Howard is the best comp.

Larry Mize is a better comparison than Ryan Howard

and you objected to the Beltre comp long before I said it wouldn't be a bad career for Harper (or anyone).
The conversation shifted to that pretty quick. Like the post right after you even brought up Beltre.
Much like the Incavigilia, it wasn't so much the comparison. More like the context of the comparison.
It was all in response to my high praise for Harper. Which is fine. You attempted to cautiously cheapen what he has done this far by saying "Beltre did the same thing, he's a great player but not a generational player". Like he was the only other player at that age to hit that well.. I didn't agree. Why would I when there are players like Ken Griffey, ARod, Andruw jones, etc, who all amounted to more?
It then evolved pretty quickly into you saying Beltre's career path wouldnt be a disappointment.
But to say i said that... "just because"...is insulting.

Yes. Baseball Prospectus called Wieters the best prospect ever (and has since called him the greatest bust ever -- veering from one extreme pole to the other). The hype on Wieters was so insane, there was a tongue in cheek website called Matt Wieters Facts which was the same joke as Chuck Norris Facts, only baseball related.
The hype still wasn't the same. Wieters was a college player, who didn't even go #1 in the draft. Shoot, he wasn't even the top college player selected. shite he wasn't even drafted out of HS.
His hype train picked up steam once he became a professional. Tore up minors. Big switch hitting catcher. Good defender. He jumped after a great pro debut.
Same with Heyward. He was an early pick but I dont even think he went in the top 10 of the draft out of HS. No one outside of GA knew who he was. He went from the 28th rated prospect, to the 5th rated prospect, to #1.
Harper was known nationally at a young age. A lot like Lebron. Even Joe Mauer. His hype train is just on a whole different level, over a much longer stretch of time. He's been the #1 rated prospect for the 2nd straight year and he is not even 20 yet.
Not all #1 prospects year to year are created equally.

Thats my point.
Wieters or Heyward becoming "the greatest prospects ever" after 2-3 years in minor league baseball is not the same as Harper, as an 18 and 19 yr old player, being named the #1 player in baseball for 2 straight years. or to be labeled as one of the greatest prospects ever(which started when he was 16. Not 23 like Weiters, or 20 like Heyward).

Inky was probably on roids and had juiced up hot bats, but all teams did back then.
Harper is a better all around athlete. Doubt he makes the big show this year though.

I would say Harper is Ventura with power. I want to see him be able to hit oppo consistently though.

This is my favorite.
Obviously not a talent scout.

Harper has been an internet sensation since 15. I mean its not very hard to see him swing a bat. The way veteran coaches talk about what he can do...at 18, 19... he is just destined for more.
This. He is MUCH more likely to be A-Rod part 2 than Pete Incaviglia part 2.

When I think Bryce Harper my immediate comparison is Mo Vaughn.
