I know you are all about Bryce and his "bat speed." Sorry for offending your sensibilities with such an outrageously insulting comparison.

its a horrible comparison. sorry if thats insult to you.

Yes, I'm old enough to have seen Pete Incavigilia play.

I admitted, from the get go, that it wasn't a superb comparison and that the sole basis was due to their reputations as big-time power hitters with high strikeout rates and low averages (in Harper's case potentially).

For a guy who is all about what he can see with his eyes, you tote quite a lofty opinion of Harper, whom I presume you've seen maybe 3-5 minutes of him playing, ever?

Harper has been an internet sensation since 15. I mean its not very hard to see him swing a bat.

The way veteran coaches talk about what he can do...at 18, 19... he is just destined for more.

I said potentially. Admittedly small sample, but it holds true for his AA numbers last year.

And Incaviglia had 33 career steals in 1,264 games, so its a valid comparison

When you can't quote a handy sabermetric stat you don't seem to know very much about baseball.

and as i said, for a guy that was supposed to be in HS last year.

hard to say he wont improve on that as he gets older.

if he swings and misses like Incavigilia at 25 then i guess we could compare them

IMO, you can't sit and tout his "once in a generation" abilities and then tag it with the caveat, "Well he should be in HS right now."

I think a failing Bryce Harper will still a Jay Bruce type player.

Why can't he? He put up extraordinary numbers for some one his age facing the competition that he faced

an 18 year old playing in AA says enough about his once in a generation abilities

he's going to play in the MLB as a 19 year old. I don't really have to "tag" anything. It speaks for itself.

That seems plausible.

I should have worded my OP better, but my intention wasn't to say, "Hey, I watch Harper play and he reminds me of Incaviglia!"

I was more asking if the two could wind up with similar career outputs: solid HR total, high Ks, low average. Of course I understand Harper is a better athlete with a higher ceiling.

Right, and it's a remarkable accomplishment.

What I'm saying is that you (the general use, not you specifically) can't say in one breath "Oh this guy is such a mega mind blowing best ever talent" and then when he fails to live up to it, "Well he's just 19."

I once said Jay Bruce would be better than Hanley Rameriez, I was laughed at.
I think its a pretty reasonable floor for him, assuming he doesn't start doing blow off strippers.

I'm not sure why I need to quantify my baseball fandom to either of you.

Shake the haters bro. This is a great thread.

To be honest, Harper kinda reminds me of Phelps, Michael. Different sport but similar hype IMO. Kinda like Incaviglia. We think alike I think. I hope.
