Incaviglia, to this day, is considered one of, if not THE, greatest college baseball player in history. He rocked 48 homers and drove in 143 runs in just 75 games his Junior season. His career 100 HRs still stands as a collegiate record.

Incaviglia was a prolific power hitter. He put up a few years of steady power in the pros, but nothing else followed. He struck out a ton and never walked. His lowest single season strikeout rate was 20.4%.

He was taken 8th in the phenomenal '85 draft, behind Will Clark, Barry Larkin and Barry Bonds.

Harper is a similarly ballyhooed power prospect. Unlike Incaviglia he's considered the best player from his draft class. Unlike Incaviglia, he's started his pro career at a younger age. And unlike Incaviglia, he chose to actually play for the franchise that drafted him (coincidentally, the same franchise).

Harper will likely be a better player than Incaviglia, who, presumably, was likely a product of steroids. But does Harper profile to a low average, high K, power hitting corner OF much like Incaviglia? Or will the rest of his numbers come around?

I hope he's as crazy as Strawberry.

Could play for Davey Johnson like Straw did.

I found Incy to be slow, very long swing, with poor contact rate. While Bryce will always strike out a lot, he does take a good share of walks. And with his prodigious power, he should get a good share of intentional bb's also. At worst, I see a perennially .270 40 pop guy... who will still average 70 plus walks a year. His OBP throughout his career will be pretty good imo.

Harper is such an intriguing prospect. The expectations of him are sky high. He has been arguably the most scrutinized prospect since Jackie. I think Bryce is a .275 hitter in the show. He will walk more than Pete did

I can't remember his swing all that well. But I figured the swing would be brought up.

I can remember trying to emulate his swing playing baseball playing ball in the neighborhood when I was young. Not Julio Franco long... but the barrel of the bat had a long way to go to get to it's juice spot.

They are both esteemed power hitting prospects.

Incy's best comparison was Rob Deer... vice versa. One dimensional unatelethic players with light tower power.

Not really. Inky was a power hitting prospect and nothing else. Harper is a five-tool prospect who hits for power. He's got more in common with A-Rod.

5-tool seems like a stretch, from what I've read. I understand he's a great athlete, but I didn't think he had speed.

I realize it's an incomplete comparison, but most seem to think Bryce will be a lower average, higher K type of guy, but ridiculous power.

Maybe Adam Dunn, like? (But a better athlete so not as big of a liability in the field).

Sure, why not?

I know you are all about Bryce and his "bat speed." Sorry for offending your sensibilities with such an outrageously insulting comparison.

I think it is hard to project his K rate as a 18 year old. As he matures I think his approach will.

Adam Dunn can't even play in the field. And is slow as shite.

how about Ryan Braun? a lefthanded ryan braun.

Yeah, that's more in line with what I was thinking. Not immobile, but not exactly a base stealing threat.

Not sure who Pete Incaiglia is...but Harper reminds me of A-Rod and Hamilton.
