It was so easy to control this and somehow no one really put any foresight into the situation.
Of course if you let it be a completely free market it's going to get out of hand. It will be fixed very soon, when a college superstar decides to stay in college for a 4th/5th year instead of going to the NFL because he can make similar money and live a far more comfortable life.
Then the king, the NFL, will step in and fix the problem.
That's how I see this playing out. When a first round talent who can make $4 million in college says "I would only make 3 as the 30th pick in the NFL draft" which is true, the league will step in to fix the problems at the college level

Funny you list 2019, which was won by an LSU team with a transfer qb, transfer TE(who declared early and went undrafted) and star receiver that sat out the following year to preserve his draft stock

I quit watching in 2019, remember who got the college to agree to these BS new rules, the same NCAA in Indy who mandated about 10-12 years ago that North Carolina change their no men in women's bathroom rule or they could not host NCAA CBB tournament games in their states.
So, they were in cahoots with these bum lawyers and judges. You see, as I stated years ago, all the colleges had to do was say, FINE, from this point on there will be NO PAY nor any SCHOLARSHIPS, and within 5 minutes these players lawyers would have been on the phone saying, WAIT, we drop the lawsuites
Then they could transfer all they want, LOL. But, if they want a scholarship they must sign a release of IMAGE RIGHTS and a release of TRANSFER RIGHTS. Then a colleges could have went back to only one hardship transfer. But....but... but a JUDGE RULED....No a judge ruled the RULES could not stand, but when you have a SIGNED CONTRACT anything can stand. Heck many a Singer made nothing because of a signed contract. The Colleges had all the leverage, and let the NCAA lawyers lead them down the wrong road.

I know the numbers are great, but I personally watched far less college ball last year than in previous years. That will likely be true again this year.

Honest question . . . Do kids today even watch the games? I know my son loves to play the game but has zero interest in watching it.
My opinion based on discussions with others if the younger generations don't come around it will start to die on the vine soon.

SEC started adding teams in 1992. It may not have been dominated by 4 or 5 teams but it was definitely dominated by one conference. SEC won 10 out of the 16 years you mentioned. 8out of the 10 were LSU, AL, and FL.

It wasn't taken out of context. He's pointing out that your ideas are not possible under current laws or lack of laws. The courts have already said you can't limit the players ability to earn money regardless of the sport they play. Don't forget that Livey Dunne was earning millions off NIL before pay for play took over.
She is probably one of the only athletes that actually had a business case to support her NIL earnings.

The sport has never been better. Those of you romancing the past are the same ones creating threads about uneven schedules, etc. That’s all the past was - teams playing unbalanced schedules for easy wins so they could get a mid October under the table bowl invite so 2 years later the Orange Bowl chairman’s grand daughter magically gets accepted to X university. So many of you are so inconsistent with your whining. You now say the regular season was so awesome and what the sport is all about while while we had that system you mocked teams like BYU and UCF who went undefeated yet were denied. Now that our National Champion has to actually prove it on the field you complain. It’s just so funny.

We have NFL players returning college because courts are overruling eligibility rules, constant roster turnover, NFL experts claiming that development is suffering due the portal, major rivalries killed due to expansion, huge regular season games that used be life or death have become glorified seeding matchups, conference championships games that have become so meaningless that many fans hope they don’t make them, and we have bills in front of congress to fix all of it….yet you say it’s “better than ever.”

The vast,vast majority of those funds come from March Madness TV revenue and those funds are distributed throughout the NCAA landscape including the Division II and used to put on championship events throughout all of its members including DII and

NCAA apparel sales and video game revenues disappeared a long time ago.

I just found my interest on Saturdays wasn't watching college ball all day like I used to. I watched every A&M game and some SEC/"big" games. I just did other things most of the time and I expect I will do the same thing again this season. It's all entertainment either way.

I’ll check scores or pop in on a few plays here and there, but I’ve stopped being a college football junkie in front of the tv all day Saturday. Now the NOAPS racing has been fantastic this season, and I try to catch part of every race.

There are plenty of solutions, but none that some biased judge won’t overturn.
The main issue is the ncaa refuses to enforce their own rules, and mostly because they’re going broke having to fight all these legal battles. I don’t understand why they can’t use the one thing they do have to enforce their rules- wins and losses on the field. Sure players can legally get paid, transfer multiple times, play 8 years, return from the pros , BUT it’s against the rules of ncaa competition so your team will forfeit any games you play in, miss playoffs, etc. that would end the insanity.

The NCAA has not been enforcing their rules for decades. I’m glad many of you are waking up to it now, but Barry Switzer, Bear Bryant, Dooley, Ford, Carroll, Bowden, Johnson, all won titles while paying players and no one said a word for decades.
Now, suddenly it’s an emergency and the sport is terrible. Please. Indiana fans sure enjoyed last season just like UGA fans enjoyed 1980. And a lot of fanbases are going to love this coming season.
