This is far fetched, but not crazy.

And let me guess, the local fanbase gets to pay for another unnecessary arena. There’s nothing wrong with the current arena. It’s a great place to watch a game.

frick owners that do this, and frick this group even more. Sad thing is, Silver wouldn’t have the balls to stop a move.

Mavs fans got massively fricked by a bunch of colluding greedy assholes. I'm happy I got to see Dirk win a title b/c even if the Mavs stay in Dallas there is almost no chance they win a title w/this ownership and GM. Lol at Nico saying the Mavs have a 3-4 year window when it's probably now a guarantee Kyrie opts out and heads to LA.

Yeah probably a 1 year window if Kyrie leaves. Klay came because of Luka so he's probably not hanging around, either. A Dinwiddie/Christie backcourt isn't going to intimidate a lot of teams.

It's like how in the move Eddie the most unrealistic part wasn't Whoopi Goldberg coaching an NBA team, but that the league would ever approve moving the Knicks from New York to St. Louis.

That doesn't make any sense. If they dealt Luka for the typical rebuilding haul, then it would make sense. They dealt him as a "win now" move, though. That decision is why there was a delta in the value received and value expected.

Did you read the OP?

They don't want the "rebuilding" haul. According to the thread in OP, the owners WANT them to have a bleak future to kill off fan interest in Dallas.

It's not about a "new arena" per se. The new mavs owners are casino magnates. That's their bread and butter business. They straight up said when they bought the team last year (or the year before?) that they planned on building out some sort of mega casino/resort/arena type bullshite.

Well gambling is still illegal in the Free State of Texas so now they are gutting the team to make it easier to move out if Texas fails to have a change of heart on gambling/casino legalization.

i don't think the NBA offering quid pro quo to the state will do anything to get Dan Patrick and co to come off their stance on gambling. If anything it might harden it.

The NBA leaving Dallas would be almost as dumb as the NFL leaving Houston

As a huge AD hater, that has always been one of my all time favorite nicknames. That being said, since the 2022 season, AD has played in more games than Luka.

NBA wouldn't let them move out. This also isn't gutting the team. It's a legit all time bad trade, but they aren't saving money outside of Luka's super. For the next two years, AD will cost 20 million MORE than Luka.

It's a very dumb trade that the NBA shouldn't have allowed to happen but some of these takes are kind of ridiculous.

The nba wouldn’t let Seattle move to Oklahoma either…until they did.

Any franchise with a commitment to winning would have shopped him to the highest bidder. So this thought process doesn't work either.

I have no idea, but he seems to think the Texas legislature would be extremely motivated to keep the Mavericks in Dallas. And I'm not sure why that would be the case.

I am a Luka fan, but the bottom line is they decided paying 350plus million for a one dimensional player who hasn’t listened to them wasn’t what they want to do. I’m fine with that. I’ve been waiting for Luka to take that next step and he hasn’t. He’s an elite scorer and that’s it and he has shown nothing to becoming more than that. Now, imagine this same person after signing the max deal. You really think he’s gonna turn into a killer and do what it takes to win championships? Of course not.

Maybe this will light a fire under him, but moving to LA in the environment is kid if the exact opposite of moving to Russia to train, ala Rocky. I’ll still root for him but I know what he is and what he isn’t. And all this talk of him being a top 3-5 player is a joke. He’s definitely a top 3 offensive players but the metrics don’t bare out he’s a top 3 overall player.

Luka is not just a scorer but is the best shot creator in the game today. His defense has gotten a bit better but that is not why he's a 5 time all NBA selection.

He will win an NBA title and be MVP next season
