Speaking of the 03-04 Lightning, how much would it suck to be a fan of a team that won the championship the season before a lockout/strike? You basically lose a year of your team's best chance.

I'll give you what you were looking for here:
2009-2010 New Orleans Saints

Except that I predicted them to make the SB

The Saints definitely didn't come out of nowhere. They had made it to the conference championship just three years ago. Even when they were struggling, it was of the 7-9, 8-8 variety which isn't that bad. Everybody knew if the Saints had just an average defense, they would be very very good.

The 2003 Marlins ok, but the 97 Marlins were loaded with big name free agents. lots of people picked them to at least make the playoffs.
Along the lines of the OP, Tha U came out of nowhere in 1983, but they did not return to obscurity after wards and they didn't need to show a map where it was

Eh, Lightning fans (or really any fans) can't be THAT greedy. The happiness of a championship should last 3 years or so (except for yankees fans or rantards)

BYU in football in 83 or whenever it was?

I'd bet that NOBODY predicted an unranked Florida team to win the 2005-2006 title, especially since Billy D was getting the rap about not being able to get out of the first weekend.

Villanova in 1985 in basketball.

2000 Ravens. Even though the Ravens finished the '99 season red hot down the stretch, nobody (well besides Joe Theismann and Phil Mickelson) picked them to go to the SB that year.
Not only that, they had a four game stretch without an offensive touchdown during that season.

not only that, they'd lost what looked to be their best 3 players from the previous year.

To be honest, I think most of us Florida fans were expecting a down year with a starting lineup of four Sophomores that had only played sparingly the year before.

It was 84 and BYU was always good back so they didn't really come out of no where. The closest comparison today would be Boise winning in 2010. While you could argue they didn't deserve it, you could not say Boise came out of no where.
