The real issue is you’ve got a 2 loss Tulane AND a James Madison team with no good wins. This guaranteeing group of 5 teams a place needs to go away.

Miami winning the ACC would have solved that.

Well sure, if you want the best 12 teams.

But the amateur conference playoff structure has set it up so that it's participation award style. We need to have a representative from each walk of life. Until they adopt a professional structure, there will always be these disputes.

No, these conferences are too bloated with wonky tie breakers to fall back to that the way you could have a few years ago

Yes. If guarantees are going to exist (they shouldn't) then the playoff needs to expand (it shouldn't), or it needs to be the 12 highest ranked team.

Who gives a shite? Miami screwed themselves over. We have a 12 team playoff. Can’t make it? Better luck next year

A professional structure would mean every single conference winner gets in no matter what and then the rest of the bracket would be wildcards who had to hit a specific metric to qualify.

Tell the ACC not to have such a fricked up tiebreaker.

This happens in literally every playoff.

MLB isn’t the best 12 teams.

NFL isn’t the best 14 teams

World Cup, not the best 32 teams

NCAA tournament is not the best 64 teams

Why is this so difficult to understand?

The playoff rule is, and was from Day 1 when the 12 team CFP was established:

Top 5 ranked conference champs
Top 7 ranked non-conference champs

That is all. So yeah…the intention was to throw a bone for a G6 to get one of TWELVE slots. JMU didn’t get any favoritism, other than they won their conference and were ranked higher than Duke.

Theoretically, if Notre Dame were in the ACC for football, they probably win the conference and we don’t have people like you still whining five full days later. But Notre Dame refuses to join a football conference, and Virginia screwed up and lost to Duke.

A once in probably 15-20 year domino fall occurred allowing two G6 teams to get into the CFP, and so many people are crying as to how the rules suddenly need to be changed. Bunch of snowflakes.

They use the exact same tiebreaker that put UGA and Bama into the SEC title game.

it’s a 12 team playoff for 130 whatever schools

not 12 for 30 like in mlb

the percentage who make the cfp is much much much smaller, it’s not a fair comparison

It is not the 12 best teams. ND and Texas would be in if it was the 12 best teams.

It is not.

There's no team left out with a reasonable argument for being the best team in the country. There are probably six teams included that don't have a good argument (and six is generous when it includes A&M and Ole Miss as the same tier as Indian, Georgi, Ohio Stat, and Texas Tech)).

If anything we have six too many.

Notre Dame would be a favorite against Indiana on a neutral field. Look it up.

This is another issue because Texas has a better resume than Miami. They should both be in and the g5 schools out

i think we will get 16 next year which helps but no more g5 auto bids. at 16 teams a bunch of g5 school’s would have qualified in recent years
