You’ve heard over and over again the Detroit teammates and Daly refer to him as innocent and naive.
You and I disagree on other things, but not here.
Seeing Rodman's personal life an upbringing in this documentary would make him far more compelling, IMO. He's actually very sympathetic when you consider why he wound up with the public persona he did.
I don't think it's too much to suggest that he created the public persona he did because he didn't feel ok in his own skin. The public persona just consumed him. I find that a lot more intriguing than the generic wild and crazy guy we got in this documentary.

NBA player shooting 50% from the free throw line is always interesting in and of itself.

Agree, I think he did it as a defense mechanism as well as a way to be accepted. He could always use the new persona to avoid talking about his actual life and being such a wild public figure connected him to others like him. Even if it was superficial and shallow he at least had a few hours where people were showing him affection. If you’ve even known a genuinely innocent person who has a spouse betray them it can be devastating and being in public 24/7 had to have accelerated that tremendously. But you’re right if we had a linear unfiltered story on him I think it would be very interesting.

I think it was also because he created a public persona who didn't care about anything. It was a direct way of camouflaging the fact that he actually was very sensitive and cared a lot.
It's covering up being hurt by acting like you DGAF. He cornered the market on that in SA and Chi.

Part of this was in the Bad Boys doc and then had his own separate documentary. They weren’t going to go too deep on him. Jesus Christ

I think many in the LBGTQ community would probably disagree. Being an athlete & an ally to that community was really unheard of that the time. That alone makes him unique to most 80’s & 90’s athletes. On the surface fans see that as attention seeking, but imagine having to go into the locker room & face teammates.
Listen to him tell the story about Madonna wanting to fly him out & pay him to impregnate her. Yea, that’s totally normal lol.
shite just listen to his teammates & Phil Jackson talk about him. They had to handle him differently. And it was accepted because he was so good. Not sure how that can be an act or attention seeking. He was uniquely himself for a while. Once he got out of basketball, it was different.,

Which Piston teammate was sleeping with Worm’s wife?
I have never heard that.

I’ve always wondered why people find Bill Simmons so interesting
Posted on 4/27/20 at 3:42 pm to RLDSC FAN
Nowadays we hear about wacky shite a bunch of random people do on the internet all the time. Back then we didn't really have that luxury and he was a pivotable player for the bad boy Pistons and then anchored the second 3 peat of the bulls dynasty so he was in the spotlight.
Dont get it twisted. Dude was/is a weird guy. He married himself and dressed in drag. Back then you didn't get exposed to that much so he became the spotlight of "man what a bizarre individual" but with social media and the internet these days we've become desensitized to stuff like that so it doesn't seem like it should be as big of a deal as it was back then but the fact remains it was. And it doesn't make him any less weird or interesting or whatever adjective you want to use.

I haven't listened yet, but Rodman is interesting in the same way Tiger King is interesting...I mean watching a trainwreck is always interesting so I don't really know what he means by this.

I think it was Vinnie Johnson. Rodman’s ex wife Annie Bakes wrote a book “Worse than he says he is” and named him I believe.

Nobody sniffs their own farts more than Bill Simmons

But I think that's the type of stuff that is less interesting. Just a complete stunt for attention that wears thin pretty quickly.

If Rodman had Joel Embiid's twitter game, he may be Supreme Leader of North Korea right now.

Doing interesting things is jsut arse interesting if not more interesing than just saying interesting things.
althought he was fricking nuts in the PMT interview.
He claims he broke his penis twice but jsut having a girl try and jump onto an errection

Actually Ryen Russilo said it

Doing relatively crazy things just for the sake of doing something relatively crazy does not, in and of itself, make one interesting. I'd assume that was his point.

Edit, I see you guys covered this upthread. Vinnie Johnson banged his wife, which is one of the things that made him go crazy.
