All you have to do is watch Dennis Rodman in any public speaking event to know that he is more than interesting

See his hall of fame speech. His appearances on comedy central roasts.

He is pretty fricking out there.

As out there as anyone I have ever seen

Russillo’s point was that Rodman did do interesting things 25 years ago. However, through all of the coverage including a 2 hour 30 for 30 Rodman himself has never given the public any reason for his behavior other than saying “I don’t care” and “I’m misunderstood, I’m a good teammate.”

But this is entirely different than saying he's not interesting.

no they are also saying that the things he did wasn't interesting because it was all calculated and for a show
I wouldn't agree.

Rodman seemed to have some mental issues. Look at him today for all the proof you need.

I don't think at all he was doing this as a calculated thing, I think he was just a very weird and out there dude.

I think this over analysis just shows how bored/angsty we all are

If you aren’t interested in how MJ and Phil dealt with or thought about Rodman then why even watch the doc

I can see why a basketball historian nut like Simmons isn’t impressed by a lot of it

Doing relatively crazy things just for the sake of doing something relatively crazy does not, in and of itself, make one interesting. I'd assume that was his point.

Ricky williams is an interesting dude

Rodman is just a different dude

Could be semantics, but it feels like two separate categories for me

Again, this was all in the context of the documentary. The point was they wished they had spent more time on Phil because he seemed to be very interesting. The point was that Rodman has been covered and his interviews in the documentary brought nothing more to the story than what has been out there for 20 years.

I personally loved the Carmen Electra interview talking about how Jordan busted in the apartment and she rushed behind the sofa because she didn't "want Michael Jordan to see me like that."

But again, that wasn't from Rodman, that was from Carmen.

The whole Rodman and Kim Jong Un relationship kinda defeats this notion. Maybe he didn’t say anything in the 90s, he’s not a very public person. But he was definitely someone to talk about. Imagine just quitting the NBA on a championship team for a week to go party in Vegas. Rodman just wasn’t outgoing with the media

The 30 for 30 on Rodman covered a lot of new stuff.

Which was his point. We’ve seen all that already. He was more interested in the footage we haven’t seen in the doc

Not sure if this was posted yet in the thread. Carmen says they ate popsicles and had sex all over the Bulls practice facility.

I’ll have to listen to the pod

Cannot believe they opened the pod and did a 30 minute segment about how Rodman isn’t interesting. If it wasn’t interesting then you wouldn’t talk about it.

And the answer to Russillo’s question about why he acted the way he did is obvious, not sure why he needs an explanation from Dennis himself, who is mentally ill and has trouble expressing himself.

Rodman grew up without a dad, had a ton of siblings, and his mom is the coldest lady you’ll ever meet. He recognized and accepted that he wasn’t going to amount to anything in life by 18 and then miraculously grew a foot and became a giant celebrity and wasn’t equipped to handle it.

Like Phil being ok with Dennis taking a week long vacation in Vegas during the season? And Jordan rigging the running drill to help him? Them talking about Rodman feeling needed when Scottie was sitting out and losing that when he came back?

This doc is supposed to have appeal beyond the massive sports fan. 90% of the people watching haven’t seen the Rodman 30 for 30.

Why have we pretended for the past 25 years that Dennis Rodman was actually interesting?

The dude was Kim jongs best friend, so there’s that.

Fair points.

I'd still disagree with those saying everything he did was calculated, the dude was and still is pretty dang crazy.

If Rodman had played for the Celtics, Simmons and Russillo would have slobbed his knob all these years. And I say that as someone who rooted for the Celtics in the ‘80s and ‘90s (I couldn’t care less about the NBA today).

If any people are not interesting, it’s Simmons and Russillo. I know, “Russillo loves LSU, blah, blah, blah ...” Don’t care.
