At one point in that ‘98 Big 12 championship game, punter Shane Lechler was warming up to go in as QB because both Stewart and McCown were injured during the game. Fortunately, one of them was able to keep going.
The Purdue team that K-State played in the Alamo Bowl was led by Drew Brees in his sophomore season, the wide receivers coach was Sumlin.

All time Tennessee team in terms of talent, but they got insanely lucky that year...
UF turning it over like crazy and missing FGs.
Arkansas self-destructing
Miss State in the SECCG in a West that was just as weak as the East was back in 2013/2014
FSU in the Natty after Weinke got hurt, and after Kansas State blew a 15 point lead.
That team literally had everything go right and then some.
For Tennessee to make it to the BCSCG this had to happen on Conference championship day,
K-state lost their Championship game that day to A&M.
UCLA was undefeated and played a make-up game with Miami due to the original game being postponed from a hurricane. UCLA lost.
State was leading UT going into the 4th quarter.

FSU losing in the last minute at UF in 1997. That defense was dominant all year but Mickey Andrews called press coverage, as only he would do, on Jacquez Green and he beat All American Samari Rolle on a stop and go for 60 yards, then Fred Taylor runs it in for the TD. FSU went on to dominate OSU 31-14 in the Sugar Bowl and I'll always be convinced we would have beat the shite out of Michigan and Nebraska

I fully believe had that game just gone to OT Bama would have come out ahead.
I don’t think so. Alabama was 10th in the SEC in red zone offense in 2013 while Auburn was 2nd. Alabama has the best red zone defense but Auburn was no.2. Auburn had the momentum and Alabama was going to fail if it came down to kicks.

No question. If K-State beats A&M they are Tennessee's opponent, not FSU with a back up QB. Would Kansas St. have won? Maybe. But they would have been a much better opponent than FSU.
If Tennessee loses that game, then Fulmer is likely fired MUCH sooner than 2008 because his next two seasons were down years compared to 95-98. If Fulmer is fired in the early 2000's it is VERY likely Tennessee finds a good HC because at that time it was probably the second best program in the SEC. And if they make a coaching change then, maybe they don't spend over a decade being wholly irrelevant

The other what if for ‘98, if Michigan St doesn’t upset Ohio St, who gets picked for the BCS between Tennessee, KState, and Ohio St?

Fsu and Nebraska were the 2 best teams that year. Not sure who wins. Nebraska skullfricked Tennessee in their bowl alliance game or whatever it was called back then.

Homer pick.
2006 #3 Louisville blows 25-7 lead at #14 Rutgers on a cold November night and loses on on a RU last second field goal. A win means Louisville is more than likely playing in the BCS National Championship that season

Those Petrino teams with Stefan Lefors and then Brohm were awesome to watch.

The leflors team that almost beat Miami was the best.

I disagree with this one. Wisconsin was better and absolutely should have won that Rose Bowl. How they lost that game will forever remain a mystery. They'd have been helpless against Cam Newton.
We went into that game with a game plan and executed it well. It's on Wisconsin for not being able to overcome it.
The plan was to play a very conservative offense, force Wisconsin into passing downs on defense, and win the game via field position and special teams. And that's exactly what happened. We had total control of the game the entire 2nd half due to field position and punting alone.
We spent all 15 bowl practices working on that plan.

However, the impossible happened. The Aggies scored a touchdown and were stopped on their next drive, but while attempting to run out the clock with a 27-19 lead, Kansas State's Michael Bishop fumbled after securing the game-clinching first down but before he could get down. The Aggies tied it up and the Wildcats, in their bid to avoid overtime, launched a Hail Mary that was completed...at the 1. Had that been a touchdown, Bishop may very well have won the Heisman.
Before they attempted the Hail Mary they were trying to line Martín Gramática up for a 69 yard FG. He had been hitting 70 yarders in practice before the game so it's not out of the realm of possibility that he could have made it. However, KSU committed a delay of game pushing the ball back 5 yards forcing them to go with the Hail Mary instead.

That would've most likely given Gramática a 2nd consecutive Lou Groza award.

If Chryst, he was OC then, and Bert had hammered TCU with Clay before the 4th quarter they wouldn't have stood a chance.
Chryst has a tendency to get stuck on something that isn't working well.

What I find interesting is 10 to 30 years ago there was much more variety in the top ten than there is recently.
K State with a chance at a NC? #3 Louisville losing to #14 Rutgers? WTF?

No. Tennessee was ranked number one in the BCS poll going into championship Saturday. All they had to do was beat Mississippi state and they were guaranteed a place in the Fiesta Bowl regardless of what happened with Kansas state or UCLA.

No. Tennessee was leading 10-7 going into the fourth quarter. Kevin Prentiss returned a punt for a touchdown to put Mississippi State ahead 14-10 with a little under nine minutes remaining.

TCU had gone all season without giving up a run longer than 15 yards or something. On the first play of that game, Wisconsin decided to find out if the undersized DL could hold up against their great OL and blasted a 40 yard run right up the middle. They legitimately could have run off tackle from the I for 400 yards that day but they fell in love with the passing game for some reason.
That was an awful game plan by Wisconsin. Ball and Clay should have combined for 50 carries and played to their advantage.
