This debate just came up on Lebatard (I know) about who would be the better NFL TE. Dan said it was Lebron bc he was the superior athlete and it’s not close. Personally I feel it’s pretty damn close bc prime Cam was the freakiest of athlete among freaky athletes in Football. Obviously Lebron, outside of maybe Zion and Giannis, is the freakiest athlete in the NBA.

That being said, I feel in general the size, strength, speed, combo in football is generally more impressive than basketball bc height is seemingly overly important. Cam would like disproportionately thick amongst NBA players and Lebron would look disproportionately skinny standing next to NFL players of similar height.

I’ll say prime Cam is a freakier athlete than prime Lebron. Thoughts?

One of them dresses like a woman and the other one acts like a woman, so neither.

Over the guy who is shorter but probably more powerful who can also “run like a deer”.

Cam Newton 6’5” 245
Lebron James 6’9 250

Lebron. Basketball players are just another level of athlete than football players in general

Are they though? I would say they are more skilled but stronger and faster I would say that would clearly be a football player.

The emphasis on height in basketball just shrinks the talent pool significantly though. In basketball if you are under 6’2 then you are severely limited whereas a 6’2” dude could play all over the field in football.

I remember watching Kevin Faulk play basketball at the Rec during my LSU days and he would have run circles around the fastest dude on LSU’s basketball team.

why they're freaks. they do impressive physical movements for guys 5-10 inches shorter than they are

look at a guy like julius peppers. absolute freakshow in the NFL but nowhere near good enough for the NBA

on a smaller scale, Charlie Ward is a good one. solid NBA starter and average athleticism in the NBA (at around 6-2 or so), but was an absolute athletic freakshow in CFB

Basketball players are better athletes. Football players have a level of toughness that basketball players don't though.

I guess this all depends on definition of athlete. My thought was the combo of size, strength, speed, and explosiveness.

The sport of basketball gives an emphasis to those who are tall. The sport of football, not so much. There are very few people on this planet 6’8” and above and there are even less that are uber athletic as well.

Peppers couldn’t play in the NBA but do you think Lebron could easily transition to NFL. Personally it seems like he would be too tall and would have leverage issues with guys shorter but more powerful.

Football is a violent collision sport. Many freak athletes have had their physical talent negated due to fear. Cam has proven to be a warrior on the field. I have yet to see LeBron take a hit, get back up, and do it again without fear.

Looks like Tarzan plays like Jane could be applicable here.

I do, because he's one of the few NBA players who has the build for it. Someone like Durant wouldn't last one half of an NFL game, for example. I've thought for awhile that LeBron and Westbrook could have played either at an elite level.

if he couldn't make it, it wouldn't be because of lack of athleticism. he'd be the best athlete in the NFL on day 1
