Belichik at UNC will accelerate decoupling football from any kind of education and the NCA

Considering he's having the school hire a full time GM. So now the new standard for all serious football schools will be to have a coach to run things on the field and a GM to handle player contracts and recruiting. Presumably that GM will need a few bodies, so GMs will then have front office staff to manage player contracts and affairs. The farce of these guys being student athletes is nearly over.
I've said it again and again, within 10 years they're going to drop the requirement for football players to be enrolled at the school, and in short order they're going to drop the four year eligibility limit. Schools are going to maximize profit and once they realize they can make more money scooping up NFL washouts or keeping guys that couldn't quite make the league, they absolutely will.

This is already happening at every major program. Nothing UNC is doing is any different.

All the major programs have this already, I'm kind of surprised how many people I've seen think what BB is wanting from UNC is some revolutionary concept.

List the names of every college GM. Yes this has been de facto happening, but formalizing it is a whole new game.

Ed Oregeron hired Austin Thomas (I think, Austin something) as LSU’s GM in like 2019. Former media member Barton Simmons has been Vaderbilts GM since Clark Lea was hired

Wrong

Alabama- Courtney Morgan
USC- Dave Emerick
Stanford- Andrew Luck
Michigan- Former bear's staffer
That's just off the top of my head. It's common practice now

It's basically already uncoupled. Academic standards are basically non-existent. The athletes all take virtual classes. Cheating is rampant.
Name the last player at your school to be academically ineligible?
I can't remember one. This used to be a major issue for lots of schools. Even higher academic schools would have a player or two struggling.
Several high level recruits would not be able to go D1 due to academics.
I can't remember the last time a player had to go junior college for academics. I'm sure it happens, but so infrequently that I'm unaware.
These guys are not students.

I've been saying it too, and also getting downvoted like you are.
But it's basic economics. Why am I giving my valuable assets to another organization after 3-5 years? Why am I not locking them up long term? Academics was always a farce, now even moreso with billions in TV deals at stake.

I was unaware this was exclusive to athletes. Every other commercial is about some online university

John Emory comes to mind. Most suspensions due to academics are branded as “not following team rules” as to not embarrass the players
There has also been a huge investment by programs to help their student athletes. They have personal tutors, required study halls, academic centers, etc. I don’t know why you’d brand athletes doing better on their academics as a bad thing, but nothing shocks me anymore

North Carolina already did that years ago. They're the school that let basketball players take fake classes that would give them automatic passing grades and they got away w/it b/c they let other regular students take them too which let them claim it wasn't an unfair benefit for athletes.

So two posters have been able to name the same player from 3 years ago.

Y’all are absolutely spiraling out of control over college football charges

Been over for 100 years. Notre Dame had mercenaries in the 1920s who were never really students..... They would play for a year and leave.....Notre Dame was a professional barnstorming team.....traveling the country, playing whomever and promoting their brand. They were Pros.

All this has Roger Goddell's name written all over it. NFL minor leagues and the destruction of college football.

Courtney Morgan literally flew to Tuscaloosa with DeBoer when DeBoer was hired. In an unofficial way, he was the first guy on DeBoer’s Alabama staff.
GM is becoming a more and more common role in college programs.

Yeah, there were guys known as "tramp athletes" who would play a couple of years, change their name, play a couple of years somewhere else, rinse and repeat.

If anything he’s trying to get UNC to catch up to everyone else
