It really is the best format.

I wish basketball would adopt the same format.

I wish it would go back to winner take all for the championship game.

How many incredible championship moments has LSU had because of the SE championship game.

I agree that the baseball format is great, but the March Madness tournament is also great

The logistics don’t work for basketball because to make it out of regionals, you’d be playing in 3 or 4 games. They can’t play basketball 3-4 days in a row like you can in baseball. You need a day off between games in basketball.

Playing the baseball tournament format in basketball would have non-hosting teams on the road for almost an entire month straight if they make a deep run, right in the middle of the semester

It wouldn’t surprise me if they wanted to try it in NCAAF playoffs to prolong college football into the summer

I wish the home team/higher seed was always technically home, but otherwise no problem

While I don't think it would work this doesn't really matter lol those guys don't go to class during the tournamnet

Back when I was traveling with the band as soon as one weekend would end and they would advance they'd load up and fly out the next site and spend the week there

I understand the sentiment. But the all-or-nothing aspect of the basketball tournament makes it a more compelling event from a fan perspective...even if it does lead to tough losses for teams that otherwise had a great season. In basketball the big upsets are remembered. You don't really have that in baseball all that much because an early upset can be erased. Auburn did just that. Yes, Auburn is the better team and if I'm an Auburn fan I'm glad to see my team's great season not go for nothing because of one bad game. But from a neutral fan's perspective it doesn't create as memorable a moment.

It's kind of dumb they play 3 game series all season long, then decide to play two weird regional 4 team double elimination tournament rounds in the postseason when they haven't done that all season.

3 game series all year

4 team regional
3 game series
CWS (which is a 4 team regional)
3 game series

It was always double elimination, even in the old 6-team regional format.

I'd argue the double elimination makes it more compelling because there are storylines between teams cultivated within that.

It works in Omaha because of the off days. Pitchers get rest and come back a second time before the finals. In the opening regional round it leads to chaos because its crammed into a few days. It makes for good TV, but tbh I'd prefer to see the best teams in Omaha versus upsets.

There's a good bit of coaches that have mentioned wanting best of 3 until Omaha and I think they'll get it eventually.

Not to the casuals, general audiences like high stakes. Especially in a sport they largely ignored throughout the regular season

That's an overrated narrative

You think the casual basketball fans knew anything about UMBC before they beat Virginia?

The 4 team CFB playoff was the best. Then of course it was ruined.

I don't dislike CBB's mind you. My only real gripe is that we have a long season, 4 months and like 60 games, for a team to prove how good it is, then they have to go through a regional, then a super regional, then omaha to actually win the title. With SO many teams, including some really good small time teams, I understand you have to do somethign like that. I just don't think it's superior to a 4 team CFB playoff.

Old school double elimination was the best format.

It was double elim through the whole tourney from 1950 until 1988. I think that’s when CBS started televising the final and they wanted a winner take all situation.

As soon as ESPN took it back over they went back to the double elim/3 game series we have now.
