Man, I miss Pat Summerall and John Madden.

Madden had a funny misspeak earlier. He was trying to say, “He’s down on his back,” but he said, “He’s down on his black.”

I've watched a few of these throw back games and I have to say, there have been some soft arse PI calls in all of them.

I watched all the games so far..Brings back some good memories of get togethers with friends.. Does the camera still shake when the home team makes a big play? I haven't noticed it..

Horrendous playcalling by the packers, leaving too much time on the clock for san fran

Forgot how great madden was....”1:40 left, 49ers need a td here, cant kick a field goal”... really john?

Summerall: Nobody has left the stadium yet.
Madden: You'd have to check their brain cells if they did.

Instant replay could have changed the outcome of this game

Was just thinking the same thing.

He was famous for overstating the obvious. I loved the take Frank Caliendo had on him with his impersonation.

What a fricking catch.
5 defenders
I remember watching this live.

To me the throw was better when you consider how the play started

This might be unfair to the guy because I only remember him from his Fox days but I never understood the love for Pat Summerall as an announcer. The guy showed zero enthusiasm or emotion in his calls no matter how big the moment or exciting the play was.

I think it boiled down to what was considered professional commentating back then.
Showing emotion or enthusiasm could be misconstrued as showing favoritism and it's a commentators job to remain neutral.

This. Young lost sight of the play when he tripped. Popped up and somehow immediately threw a 30 yard dart.

His dry tone and subtle setups for Madden were great. If you were familiar with em you could catch the humor in how he knew exactly what would send madden on one of his rants. Like he’d say “Lil screen pass there John” and that would set up a 5 minute orgasmic breakdown by Madden.

Yeah, Rice fumbled, but the Pack defense still could have stopped a 25 yard td pass with 8 seconds left.

Would you have preferred he cheered wildly and enthusiastically for one or both teams? I think Pat was an excellent PBP announcer. One of the best.
