I don’t know if Artie Moreno realizes this, but WINNING greatly enhances the fan experience when attending games.

I can respect your take but is the situation you describe really all that new? 70 years ago when the Yankees were dominating the American League, three-fourths of the teams started the season on Opening Day knowing that they had absolutely no chance to compete or to be anything else but cannon fodder for the Yankees. Yet some folks consider those the glory days of baseball.
Even when you're winning, it's no guarantee. Yankee fans, and NY fans in general, love to tell us what superior fans they are. The '61 Yanks were one of the greatest nines in baseball history, loaded with legendary talent. They set a then record for HRs by an AL team. Won the pennant by 8 games. Had two players threatening one of the most storied single season records in American sports. You know how many fans were in attendance the day Maris broke Ruth's record? 23K. That's it.

The money gap between the perennial winning franchises and the average team is MLB's biggest issue in my opinion.

MLB decided to make the league not competitive. So owners of the lesser teams and their fans should just be happy to provide an enjoyable ballpark experience.
This 100%. It's a symbiotic relationship between a business that wants to remain profitable within the constraints of the business and the community that they call home. It's the way all organized professional sports should be.

He's right in that I'm not attending an in person sporting event in a shithole area filled with degenerate fans that get drunk and want to fight or act stupid.
Kidding. Only kidding g.

I'm a die-hard baseball guy. My family went to California a few years ago and I was fortunate to see a Dodgers vs. Phillies game at Dodger Stadium. I loved it. After my wife and I flew back home, my folks went down to Anaheim to see the Angels. They're not as die-hard as I am about the game and they loved it, much moreso than Dodger Stadium. They said the fan experience there was great.

It seems every owner, League is coming out with this mantra to the fans: "We're in the Entertainment business, its about the experience"
Which is Code for F-U fans, things aren't on the up and up, players don't care about winning, its never been about that, you stupid fans...so don't complain about teams tanking or players not trying and come out for $25 Nachos and $15 beer and bring a date...Experience!
Mark Cuban has said it outright recently regarding tanking by teams. (its normal and the NBA isn't about winning but the fan experience)....
NFL has basically said the same recently and now MLB. Don't we all look stupid now? Oz has been revealed, WWE indeed.

In fairness, at that point Maris actually didn’t break a record because the commissioner at the time, Ford Frick, who was a buddy of Babe Ruth and later admitted that he did it to protect Ruth’s record, had ruled that Maris would have to break the record within 154 games for it to count. (That was the first year of the 162-game schedule.)
It was stupidity and reprehensible and ultimately it was fixed, but I have always felt that was the reason for the slim crowd that day. The Yankees had a 10-game road trip before their final five games at home. Maris hit No. 59 in Baltimore in Game 154 but could go no farther in that number of games. The Yankees were drawing huge crowds before then, and they didn’t draw caca in those last five games, they only drew 7,500 for Game 159, the night after Maris hit No. 60.

The Angels have had the two best players of an entire generation and they couldn't even make the playoffs.
What a shite show organization.
What a shite show organization.

Sitting here watching the Dodgers just beat the dogs**t out of the Angels in a spring training game. 9-0 in the second inning.

Beer is $18 a pop at Reds games. So our priorities don't include winning or fan experience! Yay!

You mean people care more about staying safe and affording their bills than the team winning? I don’t believe this.
It’s common sense but this guys using it as an excuse for his team to suck.

Numbers lie and this guy might be too, just funny to see most of the responses say their preference is winning….
He said 80% of the decision is from the Mom and that’s what he is talking about.
Now hopefully he also said winning is in HIS top 5

Holy retard he is talking about research they do on their fans, and how moms make decisions on going to games, what their priorities are for making entertainment decisions.

How many fans go to a game when the team sucks? Now when you are in first place toward the end of the season how many fans are there?
The Rockies are one of the worst franchises in the sport and in the top half of attendance every season because of their gameday experience.
From a purely business perspective, people are getting mad at him from noticing their own behaviors

I remember the concessions being affordable except for the beer.
Cincinnati is a great baseball town. It would be nice if they had a contender to go along with that.
