One of the reasons the Payton/Brees era didn’t produce another SB.

Elite interior DL play was our Achilles heel and Donald wrecked shop most times we played them

He's pulling a Barry Sanders and getting out while his body is still in good shape.

Another Western Pennsylvania native who's gonna waltz into Canton on the 1st ballot. Crazy how that area has produced as many HoF'ers(across all sports, but mostly football) as it has.

So 13 players have 8 or more All pro selections. Donald is one of them.

no defenders have more than 8.

There are 6 Defenders with 8+
Reggie White
Lawrence Taylor
Bruce Smith
Joe Schmidt
Bill George
Aaron Donaldson

now is this the best metric?

idk but it’s not like the rest are a bunch of bums.

As others have said, this man has nothing left to prove, he has played the game of football at the highest level and is retiring with all the accolades a player can dream of. He’s retiring on his terms. What a career!

Probably the best DT of all-time.

The question is if he's the best DI in NFL history.

You can make a pretty good argument he isn't even the best defensive lineman in Rams history. The problem is that, except for interceptions, no one kept individual stats on defensive players when Merlin Olsen, Deacon Jones, and Jack Youngblood played.

I don't know where this "that came out of nowhere" stuff is coming from. He has entertained the notion after each of the last three or four years.

Damn. I guess it wasn't just smoke when I was hearing reports of him retiring after the Superbowl.

I hate it because he clearly has more years left in the tank. But he has nothing left to prove.

Easy HOF candidate, with possibly being 1st Ballot.

Fletcher Cox was basically an all time DT and really never was in the same conversation as Donald. Just insane how good Donald was.

I always hoped Fletcher could make the HOF. I think being overshadowed by AD his whole career hurts

Deacon Jones, maybe, I was too young when he was playing but absolutely no way with Merlin or Youngblood.

Donald IMO is top 100 all time. Recency bias can go both ways with people discounting accomplishments just because they are recent.

Donald was a 3 star nobody recruit in HS. Dave Wannstedt recruited him, Darell Revis, and Shady McCoy all to Pitt in like a 5-6 yr window.

Dave was a mediocre HC, but he was an incredible personell guy, all learned from the Jimmy Johnson school of scouting.

Basically two 1st ballot HOFers and likely the best at their position of their generation, and another borderline guy who was a perrenial pro bowler.

And he wasnt exactly at Alabama or Ohio State or USC doing it.
